Help me save my 266!!! It's slowly dying. (Brush restoration/care?)

My 266 is kinda losing its shape...it curves a bit outwards (the tip), and it doesn't hold its shape as well when I use it. It seems a bit dry, and like it's causing the hairs to separate and fan out more, too. It's not BAD...it's just not perfect anymore.

Is there any way to make it go back to being perfect?

hmm.. tricky- try cleansing it with the mac brush cleanser and while its still wet, pull the bristle end so that your re-aligning the bristles in a sense. Hold it there for a minute or so as it dries. See if the tip will straighten out. Perhaps try using a little hair conditioner to help the dryness? sorry if this doesn't help! you can always use the brush towards B2M

Stick it in boiling water, then press the hairs together and put the tip under a heavy book for a while. They're made of natural hair, so you have to treat it as such.

Do you still have the plastic sleeve for it? If so put it in there and press it down with a book!

Someone said something like this, but I found that when I wash mine with a shampoo for damaged hair, it makes the bristles a lot softer and keeps them in place better.

Hey Ashley,

I just wanted to let you know I have been thinking about your question today. I was wondering, since it's natural, if you could put it in between your straightening iron (if you have one or you can use a regular iron) and try to flatten it that way? I dunno but maybe worth a try

Let me know how it goes - I am curious if this would work!

Aaaiiieeee, god no. Steam and heat melt will soften or melt the glue under the ferrule, leading to bristles unseating themelves. Then you'll have a balding brush, which is a squillion times worse than a bent one.

I use the same shampoo and conditionar that I use on my hair once every 3 months to soften the brushes out lay it out to dry... air dry.. like hanging off the counter.. and when its dry get the plastic case it was in (or a tighter one) and let it realign that way for a while.. and keep it in there on and off when your not using it.. I find with mine that has helped.. I tend to keep it in those after washing.

dont use heat, like lara said will most probley hurt more then help, and depending upon the age of the brush you might be able to get it excanged

I swear I thought someone said MAC will replace any of your brushes if you bring it into a store/counter or you send it back to them.. that's worth a shot if none of the other suggestions works.. =\ I'm sorry about your brush!

Honestly, I wash my brushes with Baby Shampoo and I haven't noticed any of them going wonky, and I use them all the time. I also wash them after every single use.

I would try that at least once a week to soften the bristles, and do as the others have said and place the brush tip under a book to see if it will reshape.
