Hey!! (Sorry if this is in the wrong thread... I wasn't sure between this one and 'Recommendations'

)

Well it's that time of the year again, and this year, the theme of our faculty has chosen (I'm at university btw), is a masquerade!!

I was going to skip out on it this year- financial constraints due to saving for end of year trip... but my best friend has been bombarding me with ideas and pictures of EVERYTHING she could find to do with this, and i'm tempted
lol.gif

The idea of dressing up just sounds like so much fun and I can't resist!!

Only problem is... I've never been to one before!! All I really know is that you need a mask. Which I don't have... But what else? What are you supposed to wear?! ack. I don't have a mask either... I was planning on making one, but I'm really not too sure about this whole thing.

Anyways, (again, due to needing to save), I can't reaally afford to go and buy another dress- or whatever you're supposed to wear!! I've only really got two dresses that are 'formal-ish', so I decided to post up the pics to see what you guys thought... are they completely inappropriate?

Here they are!! Sorry one of them is soo small... I had to take that one with a webcam, and yeah.

The dress that I wore last year for the very formal (theme?) of 'White tie' dress code.

Only problem with this one is that it's well... white. all over. And it makes me look a little tubby because of my bust

My friend was telling me to go get some wings and dress as an angel, but I'm really not too sure. It seems sooo... Romeo and Juliet-like =\
I don't know. I thought Juliet looked GORGEOUS with them. I'm just not sure if I would

Anyways, please let me know what you guys think!! I'm still sooo undecided... and needing to buy tickets soon!

Thank you!

i would wear the black and white dress and rather than actually making a mask how about doing mask like makeup thats much mch dramatic and maybe very gold. i think that would fit in perfectly for a masquerade theme. or maybe so a sultry evening face and glitz it up ith body jewels

Thanks!

I'd LOVE to try mask like make up... but I'm not very confident about my skills

I'm still quite new to the make up world! I can do basic stuff after spending 3 weeks being taught by my aunt at a make up school, but that's about it!! Too bad she's in Canada

I'm still a lost though... Masquerade. Is that meant to be fancy-dress? Or just... i dunno.... help!

At it's most basic Masquerade is just a masked ball! So any ball dress with a mask is fine. At more elaborate events there'll be the whole big white wigs and stuff going on too. Either dress would be great but they 'tend' to be full length traditionally, not sure how long your black and white one is but it wouldn't really matter anyway.

You should do something totally different to what you normally wear for your make up too, it's all about not being yourself so have fun with it. Red lips would be great with the black and white dress.

I see

The black and white one goes to about mid-calf, so I'm guessing the white one might be a better choice.

I have no idea what I'd be doing in terms of make up though- especially since I'd have a mask

Only one product on my list so far

Porcelain Pink MSF, which will hopefully arrive at my place in 1-2 weeks time!!

What sorts of colours do you guys think would work with the mask, since I'm going to have to make it? (And since my make up skills aren't so great that I'd be able to create something like that!)

I was thinking paler colours- like cream, pink, gold, silver... any combo of these.

I think you should go to a craft store by one of those cheap dollar masks and just add a bunch of rhinestones, jewels, sequins, feathers, glitter. Just go with whatever inspires you. If you by any chance can find one or make one I would totally wear a cape. I actually like that first dress more for this event. The last dress has a really pretty flirty salsa/flamenco dancer vibe. If you were going to wear the last one I would maybe get a fan and play up on the senorita thing. Wear your hair in curls with a red rose in it... and just have a really glitzzy mask.

I would say no to the wings... because being at a party/dance with wings is hell. I know by experience... you bump into everyone... knock stuff down... eventually have to take them off and then you are just wearing a white dress. Plus they are probably pricier than other items unless you already have a pair.

Good luck... have lots of fun and post pictures!!

Thank you for your advice!

hehe yup. Thanks to everything that you pointed out, I've decided no to wings! That, and i've been looking around on ebay and stuff... daammnn they're expensive!

I'm still not quite sure which dress I will wear, but I'm going to pick up that mask really soon and start decorating! The masquerade will be in three weeks, so I have a little bit of time... though I figured I'd best start planning a little early and not leave things till the last minute

Again- thank you!
