Hello! I've never tried to achieve a smokey eye look before and i really like the MAC Beauty mark(velvet) eyeshadow. i was wondering what medium/light eyeshadow will complement this colour?
Also was wondering if anyone has found a winning smokey eye combo which they can recommend to me

lol, I was wondering the same thing! I've been trying it with different combos and it never comes out good on me. I love that color though!! It always makes me look like I have bruised eyes.

For a pink/burgundy smokey eye I've used

Phloof! or Jest to highlight my brow
Girlie or Mink Pink on the lid
Cranberry in the crease
Shadowy lady in the crease
Beauty Marked to define the outer v
I use Beauty Marked again along the lower lash line but I apply it with a wet brush to bring out the red glitter.

HTH.

omg, i just got this tip from someone at MUA - to wet the shadow a bit.

i placed the some beauty marked (dry brush) on my inner arm. then i picked up my homemade mixing medium on the brush and brushed that over the e/s on my arm - it brought out the purple in the shadow!

i definitely agree that this is an e/s that comes out best when wet. when it's dry, it just looks like another black shadow to me.

i love it w/ a light neutral shade on the lid (like vanilla pigment) blended nocturnelle on the outer portion of the lid, sketch in the crease, beauty marked in the outer v. creates a really pretty smokey purple/burgendy look.

i also use if for a pinker look like what jilliandanica described, but instead of shadowly lady i like to use haux in the crease w/ cranberry. i'm sure the effect is pretty similar.
