HELP!!! Non-US Pigments Sold in Toronto?

Okay, this is driving me up the wall.

I have a makeup artist friend who occasionally goes to Toronto and comes back telling me about MAC pigments that he sees up there that are sold in Canada that they do not sell in the US.

I have tried a few times to find out what the heck he is talking about, but he is the one that introduced me to MAC a long time ago, so I know that he is familiar with MAC.

This time he bought one of these special non- US pigments and it is black with green shimmer. The name is Emerald something or other. The story is that these pigments are not FDA approved or something so they sell them in CAN and not here.

Okay I do not live close to him so I can not get to see this pigment, but this is driving me nuts. I need to solve this mystery.

He claims that this stuff was a new release special edition and that he got it at MAC (I asked if it was MAC pro, and he said yes) in Toronto. He just picked it up within the last month.

What the heck is he talking about? Anyone out there know?

He has a lot of the pigments in his kit, so I am not sure if he is talking about something else instead of pigments. This is driving me up the wall. I just HAVE to solve this mystery. :huh2:

Piggies

I"m not sure what he's talking about, since I buy many MAC items from the MAC pro store on Queen Street (the only PRO shop in Ontario, I think). If you can get a name for the piggies he's talking about, I'll be happy to check it out and send you pics or pick one up for you! (If indeed they have them....)

Sorry I couldn't be more help, but now you've got me wondering!

Here's a link to the Canadian Pro site pigment page.....this is what I think they have, but I'll call tomorrow if you find another name for me to look up:

Now I'm curious too!

I can get to the Vancouver Pro Store pretty easily, but I had no idea there were Canadian pigment exclusives there.

probably one of those trainer samples o something. maybe a preview of the holiday collection perhaps. i don't see a pigment being approved for use in canada and not the states since the canadian cosmetic restrictions are much more stringent than american ones.

I don't think so - if you read Colorqueen's post, she says he purchased this piggie, and that it was at the PRO counter. I know that the only 'Emerald' pigment is emerald green, and it's not that dark. Unless it's Dark Soul, I can't think of any product that would match that description

If it's a pigment in the making, or a soon to be released LE, then it would not have been at the store, and especially not for sale recently. HTH!

emerald green isn't black, although it does look pretty dark in the container. at quick glace, i guess it could be mistaken for a black color, when it's actually on, it looks like a true green color. same with forest green, which is a discontinued pro color. my guess is maybe they are simply pro pigments, and he is mistaken about them not being available in the U.S., or he is simply unaware that pro products are available in the US, in limited release. (by limited, i mean, they are pro products only, sold in the 6 ((?)) pro stores in the US)..

I agree Canadian restrictions are much much stricter... for example currently all products with benzoyl peroxide (proactiv etc...)are being taken off Canadian shelves, yet are remaining in American stores.

I honestly think your friend is mistaken, as far as I know there are NO MAC pigments that are being made/released in CA that are not released here... If he said he bought it it must be either Emerald Green or Green Brown which are pro pigments...

I agree. As far as I know, this is true.

I have never seen a pig in the MAC Pro in Canada that I knew wasn't available in the US.

That sounds like Forest Green, whcih I believe is discontinued. I have it and it sounds like what you're describing.

Hmmm, looks the same as the US pro listings.

I asked if he was referring to the Deep Blue Green and he assured me no, that it was a new color - Emerald somethingorother. It has dark black base with green shimmer.

He did not like it because the dark black stayed and the green shimmer left when trying to blend. Then he went on about the quality of MAC pigments going down...

I am wondering what the heck he is talking about. Perhaps an LE product that is not a pigment?

He drives me nuts when he does this. He says that the clerk puts out a bunch of pigments and says that these are the Canadian ones that the US can not have becuase of the FDA etc.

It has to be another company or another product- I asked around last time about this and eventually the new pigments came out, many of which he said were Canadian exclusives (which had sheets in the US versions saying no use on eyes, etc).

I wondered if perhaps that was their way around the FDA.....

I wish I lived closer and saw him more often- I would ask to see this stuff. It has to be something else.

That is what I asked him too an he insisted that it was called Emerald Forest or Emerald Night or something like that.

I wonder if he is getting MAC confused with another company.

Although he has done this a few times before. We do not have any MAC in our area at all that he would be used to seeing, so perhaps he is mixed up.

However, he is mgr at a high end cosmetic counter, so I always figured that perhaps he is right.

But after all of your input, and previous year's research, I think he is mixed up with another company.

What else could it be?

Well, if he was not such a serious person, I might think that he just had fun with this.

However, I think he is totally mixed up. I mean, he has to be thinking of another company.

Someday perhaps I will find out. If I can ever get him to show me the stuff he bought.

If I were you, I would just email MAC and ask them if there is such a thing as canadian exclusive pigments. I have been to the pro store in Vancouver several times, and have never heard of this. I think he might be mixed up. Besides, if MAC came out with a black pigment with green shimmer, it would need to be called Dragon Scales

Oh, as for the CFDA, they are incredibly strict. Any woman here can tell you how frustrating it was to have to have a prescription for a yeast infection when in the US, you could buy monostat right off the shelf. It has only been in the last few years that stuff like that have been available without a prescription. Same with lots of prescription medications. I work in a group home and one of the children requires a special medication that requires us to have the direct authority of the CFDA in order to renew the prescription. My mom has trouble with diabetes and she was put on a trial medication that worked for her. The bad news is that it is only in trial stages here and she can't have it. It is readily available in the US. I can't see the CFDA approving something that wouldn't be approved in the US.
