Hey everyone. For serveral years now it has been a dream of mine to work on a make up counter. I live in the UK so after I turned 16 and took my GCSE examinations I planned to go to college to take a beauty therapy course to get me started, but due to personal reasons I couldn't take the course and went straight out and got myself a job in retail. I have been working in retail since (for two years now - I'm 18 ) but now I'm ready to start working my way towards my dream job. Anyway, I decided to call my local House Of Fraser and asked to speak to the manager/supervisor of the beauty department to ask her if there were any specific qualifications/training that are preferred/required. I was told they have several vacancies going on the make up counters which don't require any qualifications as they train you from stratch, and that there were also vacancies on the perfume counter. She then told me she was holding interviews this week and asked if I'm free on Wednesday, to which I replied I was, and she asked me to come along for an interview! She also asked if I had filled in an application form, and I told her I haven't but I have one at home I can fill in and bring along with me.
So, I'm very excited but also extremely nervous! I've got my outfit planned and have browsed these forums to get an idea of what kind of questions I'll be asked - but I have one problem.
Because there's serveral vacancies I'm not sure exactly what counters need staff. I use a lot of MAC, Benefit and Chanel so I know a fair bit about the products - but say the vacancies were at Bobbi Brown and Clinique, would I be expected to know all about these products, too? Is it worth looking in to the products and trying to remember everything? Will I be asked questions about specific products?
Thanks!

NO idea about what Fraser is looking for, but I can tell you in a general sense - strut your stuff. Be able to talk about what you use and why. If they are interviewing for a specific counter - and because you love makeup- you can probably say Oh, I LOVE blahblahbrand because... and name three attributes. Doesn't have to be specific.
Like Clinique has such great customer service, such a tried and true product, really bringing science into beauty.
Bobbi Brown... such great performing makeup, really great for young to old, color range works on so many people...
You get the idea.
The other thing is to keep in mind... customer service. That you can explain what you're suggesting to the customer - give them a reason why you're showing them pink eyeshadow (enhances blue eyes, not over powering...) as opposed to just blithely saying "Oh, you should have THIS." and that you listen to their feedback.
