November is National American Indian Heritage month. In respect of these beautiful people, I have listed several sites about them.

Native American Indian First Nation Men

(I had trouble getting it to play here. You can type in the title on www.youtube.com. It is part one). This is a tribute to the few Native American Male actors. I agree with person who put up the video. I would very much like to see more these actors. They are beautiful.

There was such a demand for pictures of these beautiful men, that a part II video was produced.

BTW - If someone can post the link that would work for this, I would greatly appreciate it.

I just thought it was so interesting looking at the section called Identity by Design in the museum. The color blue may represent a water or the sky. The color black was representing the conquer of the adversary. The dresses took years to make and the men helped collect items for their wife's dress. It was all just neat to me. You could tell what tribe someone belonged to by their dress. Also, some of the condition of the clothing and baskets blew me away. You could wear many of them today.

here are some modern Native American quotes

"They charged him with attempted murder. Then they plea-bargained that down to assault with a deadly weapon. Then they plea-bargained that down to being an Indian in the Twentieth Century." - Thomas Builds-the-Fire

"It's a good day to be indigenous!" - Randy Peone

"We went to Arizona to see the Gathering of Nations. There were Indians from all over, more Indians than I'd ever seen in my life. And I just kept thinking to myself, why couldn't we have been this organized when Columbus landed?" - Suzy Song

it's too bad schools don't teach about Native American history month like they do Black History Month. the Native Americans had just as much of an impact on the development of this nation, if not more.

thank you for posting this. i imagine most people are unaware that there is a Native American history month - i know i was.

i agree with purrtykitty. it's very sad. though african americans have suffered much in our nation, so have native americans. from assimilation to removal policies, theyve time and time again been mistreated by our government (back then). more than half of their population was killed by interaction with americans. from diseased blankets to reckless murders of their tribes (not including the destruction of their heritage), they deserve to be revered. sorry, ive been studying native americans all semester. you wouldnt believe the things americans have done (off of our educational records) that are just disgustingly horrible. i just finished a novel about first hand occurances with americans written by native americans. all i can say is wow.

This is gonna sound weird... but doesn't having Native American History Month undermine the contributions of Native Americans to American History?

Native American history is American History.

P.S. According to Wikipedia it's also Latin American History Month.

It should be clarified that these are not the names of real people, they are the names of characters from the movie "Smoke Signals." The quotes, obviously, are all lines from that movie.

It's a really good movie, though. I'd just like to see some real-life quotes too. Maybe I'll compile some tomorrow, and post them here, if that's alright.

When I was a kid, there was very little taught about Native Americans in my history class.

I think the month honoring them is a step forward to educating people about the truth of what their tribes of people have done for this country and how they have been treated.

From knowing a few, there are things that will always remain secret (aka sacred) to only them. They are willing to educate others to get rid of the stereotypes and ignorance that have existed in our history.
