Hostage: What would YOU do????

There's currently a situation near where I live where a man is holding his three children, all under 8 years old, hostage.
He's been holding them hostage since yesterday, and had been holding them hostage with their mother.
Mother was freed yesterday, and left her children with their father, holding them hostage.
She says she doesn't think he'll hurt them.

WHAT????

The police don't even know what type of armament this guy has, and the lady just LEFT them there?

What would YOU do in her situation?

I don't have kids, but most women (whether or not they have kids) still have a motherly instinct. Anyway, I don't think I could leave my kids.

She says she "doesn't think he'll hurt them", huh? Well, obviously he IS NOT the man she knows (or, thought she knew), because he took the hostage, didn't he? and I'll bet she never thought he'd do that, either.

There's no WAY I could leave my kids. Just...No. Not a chance. Not leaving my children so I can save my ass.

whoa - what kind of woman would do that?! I don't have children, but if I did there is absoltely no way I would leave them in that type of situation with a crazy man!

If I thought leaving the children would be helpful, I'd leave. The only kinds of helpful things she could provide would be what the man has, locations he hasn't secured well, perhaps better insight onto his mental state (like why is he doing this.) Did he threaten the children's lives if she didn't leave?

If he didn't care either way, I don't think I'd have left.

I'd tell him to let the kids go and to shoot me.

Anyone that stupid to walk away and let kids go is so selfish. Unless of course he threatened to kill the kids unless she left?

She says he hasn't threatened the kids lives overtly.

That said, I just checked and the guy wound up committing suicide.

Yeah I am not a mother and really I don't have those "motherly' feelings yet but I can tell you damn straight I wouldn't leave that house without my children - dead or alive.

I would rather die fighting to stay with my children than live walking away.

she was injured but not severely...I don't know. I simply can't envision a situation where I could leave my children like that.

My lord...what selfish bitch she was. I'd never leave my kids in that type of situation. EVER. It's horrible enough that the children were held hostage, but the father committing suicide just tops it off. I sure hope they're being well taken care of from another family member or something. You might as well call it abuse for her to leave her children like that.

Did she offer a reason why she left? For all we know, she had a really good reason for leaving. As I mentioned earlier, what if he threatened to kill the children if she stayed? By threaten, I don't mean just verbally but knife to the neck/gun to the head. Besides that, I can't imagine what other good reasons she'd have, but let's see what she has to say before we accuse her of anything.

He never made any overt threats toward the children, as I've stated before. She left because she thought he wouldn't hurt the kids. She Quote:

At least she called police. As I said, she says he never made any threats toward the kids.
But...he was armed and considered dangerous...I wouldn't have left my children.

Oh man! I don't have kids but like the others, I couldn't leave my kids if I had them. I can relate it to my cats (ahaha) since I love them to bits, I'd die for them!
