In the UK we don't get free postage online at MAC in the US they always get free shipping , how crap is that????

I'm guessing it's because your dollar (pound) is stronger than ours. Just a wild guess though.

Every time I place an order I look at the little box where you can type in an offer code and wonder if anyone *ever* gets one and, if so, *where*?!

I agree, they never seem to want to give the UK customers any discount or free shipping! Come on mac! Loyal UK customers need some bonuses!
