How do I look my age? :S

I'm 18, in university, but people mistake me for being in high school. I know it's sort of an advantage, but I find it annoying that people think I'm young. What can I do to make myself look my age??? Any suggestions??

TIA

dont wear tight or obnoxious clothing because people often read that as being young. maybe wear something a little more professional but still young and cute. I think clothing will make the most difference and acting mature. But looking young is a GOOD thing.

Girl, I'm 25 and in graduate school, and people often mistake me for 16. I feel your pain!

One of the reasons that I got into makeup is for this reason. I find that when I do a polished look (ie, darker neutral colors and don't overdo the eye makeup) I'm less likely to be mistaken for significantly younger than I am.

I'll be watching this thread for suggestions, though! I'm still learning in this deparment.

I don't look that young in pictures, but in person.. I get mistaken for being younger than I really am.

Yeah, these days the younger girls are dressing sluttier and I try to stay away from the trends that they're getting into so that I don't get mistaken for being one of them.

I have the same problem. It's annoying, but I figure I'll appreciate looking younger in a couple of years.

Try for a more polished look, both makeup and clothes. Like, tailored, well-fitting clothes, without going overboard on trends. Maybe throw in a trendy accessory or two for some flair. Generally... Pants/trousers > jeans. Blouses and camis > t-shirts and tank tops. Natural fabrics (wool, cotton, etc) > synthetics. Fitted jackets, or even large scarves or wraps for warmth. Scarves in general are great, actually. The blouses, especially, seem to do the trick for me, even if they're $10 ones from H&M (just make sure they fit well!).

I recall reading somewhere that cool colors make you look older, while warm ones make you look younger/fresher. Don't know how true this is-- I think more neutral, subdued colors generally read "older" than brights or heavy eyeliner. Lipstick > lipgloss usually reads older as well. hth!

Smarten yourself up! I'm also 18. Not sure if i look it but i tend to wear polished outfits. Eg. High waisted pencil skirts (great for your figure) with a cute top. If you don't want to look too corporate you can team it with a plain or patterned T-shirt and thongs. I wouldn't recommend wearing flats with pencil skirts unless it is above the knee. Wear kitten heels and small earrings. Wear hair parted on the side and either straightend or wavy. Don't wear ponytails and if you want to ahve your hair up put it in a messy bun! Make sure your nails are painted in a plain colour or with french ( no pink or blue though red can be good on short square nails) With makeup and hair i would recommend wearing browns and avoiding too much shimmer. And if you REALLY want to look older get some black glasses hehe with clear lenses :p Of course if you are happy with your style and your style is more 'girly' it will be harder to make yourself look older. Just think of yourself as cute and be happy that when you are older you'll look younger than the rest of us

At 18 we appreciate it when people tell us we're 18 or slightly older, at 30, you crave for someone to tell you that you look a lot younger.

I feel your pain though, when I was 21 a woman in Port Authority thought I was her 14 year old grandson and it shocked me.

Today people still think I'm younger than I really am and now I really appreciate it.

Usually they'll judge you by clothes or what makeup you're wearing, however it's your behavior that makes all the difference. So unless you're trying for an interview, I wouldn't put much thought into it.

Damn, I look old for my age, and I know that's going to suck down the line. I could buy beer without getting ID'ed when I was 16. :S Good thing I don't drink beer.
