How do you remember all those eyeshadow colors???

I had a mac demo interview today and I was sooo nervous I could barely speak right. I was a little shakey! The girl next to me was calling out all the shadows she used and I was like wow! Thats crazy insane!

I remember about 6 names out of the 20 e/s I have at home. In my demo, as I explained what I used and just flipped the shadows over to give the names

. HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU REMEMBER THAT!?? I hope that didn't lower my chances of getting the job. How many of you can remember all of your e/s? I'm interested in knowing...lol

I have 17 palettes and I pretty much can look at all of them and tell what color they are without seeing the label....But that just comes from looking at Mu all the time ...you just know the colors ...I can even pretty much tell most of the colors people use on their FOTD's without looking at their product listing if they use MAC....although the highlight colors do cause a challenge for me because they all look so similar on the eye...it's just a habit that you eventually pick up....repetition increases memory

ahh, see this is where visual memory tricks can play an important role.

remember those flashcard games with the questions on the front and answers on the back. you can do that with the eye shadows, its proven psychologically that practicing repetitively helps cognitive mental processes.

thats really how i remember the names of the eye shadows that i have in my palette. hth.

wow Tish thats crazy. I do makeup myself but a lot of it's Dior. I worked for them for 2 1/2 years. There was no need to learn e/s names because most of them were in quads. As I started to buy mac, I got my pallett and just started buying one by one....or maybe 2, lol. I had a baby and haven't worked in a year "at a store" but I have freelanced here and there. I just never found it necessary to remember the names of the e/s. I remember the color pay off though. haha!

I have 12 MAC palettes and for some crazy reason, I remember 95% of them without having to flip them over. True addict! = )

yeah i think i'm just obsessed! i can look at my palettes and kknow pretty much what every colour is called. i can do this with my lip glosses too and pigments! but my make up is my hobby and i invest alot of time into it which is why i know things like that. plus i have a good memory anyways (have to with the amount of info i need to store up for work!!)

I quite rarely remember the names of things unless it is something I use everyday or a fave color. I do quite well for myself as a MUA and no one every seems to mind. I have never worked for MAC but I think in the end they would proably look for skill over memory.

I tend to play my lack of memory as a personal charm. I will often wear a look for a client that reflects what it is they have told me they are looking for and rather then try to remember the pile of crap that I ruffled through when I was barely awake that morning, I will basicly say, "let me show you the shades that will best highlight your skintones to get this look."

Never had any problems with taking this approach.

I only have 2 palettes (30 e/s) and I remember all their names. I don't know how I'm able to do it, maybe because I only buy the colours I like.

I have about 100 shadows now, and I can remember most of their names... the highlights/light browns are the trickiest but I can get most of them right. For me it's a lot of repetition and seeing them a lot that pounded everything in my head, over time.

I remember all of my eyeshadow names (except for the MES of course) but then I only have 3 palettes. Like Tish said, it's just from repetition. I play with my makeup a few times a day - always trying to create new and better looks - so inevitably I end up memorizing most of the colours. I think it also helps that the colours are all written down on those circular stickers that I stick to the pallette so that I don't have to flip the e/s upside down to see the names.

It's the same thing with me. I have 9 palettes, and I've learned the names from moving them around, playing with them, and just looking at them.

I have no problems remembering the names. The biggest problem I have is finding the e/s if I put them in a quad (no problems with 15 pan palettes though

), I always forget what I put in them and where my quads are.

i have 6 palettes (though i depot 15 e/s palette so i could fit more) of MAC eyeshadows and I pretty much remember what all the shades are without flipipng them around. yes true addict here! haha like tish said, repetition helps you remember. don't try to memorize them, just use them a lot and you'll just remember.

for me its not only repetition, but saying the names when customers ask what colour it is, and also schematicizing them at work. when you do that, you tend to memorize them real quick. i can even tell when one is outta place. now that's messed up!

I agree. Once you start using them a lot you just know the names. I know most of the names of the ones I have but for some colors that look similar to each other I have to look at the name (like some of my greys).

I love my single e/s, have a lot of them.... and can tell you the names.

It is more difficult with my l/g

Simple repetition... I'm a visual learner, so once I associate a name with a certain colour and see/use it a few times, I embed it to memory.

The more you play with your eyeshadows like spend time organizing them in your palettes or using them showing them to your friends and fam its easy to remember them after a while ;D
