How does this happen?

OK, that is beyond messed up that word pops up in the translation software. I would be a little disturbed to see it.

That said, that woman is just a tad too dramatic for my taste. Her friends from Saint Lucia wouldn't sit on the couch? That's just dumb. And she deserves financial compensation? Yeah, I'm not buying it, sorry.

Oh good Lord.
I understand her consternation, but being an overactive drama queen is too much for me.

I dunno... I think she has a right to be upset. You'd be pretty pissed too if your 7 year old asked what color, "Cracker White" was.

And sue'ing a company is the only way to make them be careful in the future. Companies dont care about people and feelings, but they do care about the bottom line.

Of course she has the right to be upset, but she also has the responsibility to be realistic.
That word is part of the English language, like it or not, and online translators are not perfect and they offer that caveat when they're in use.
Get over it.
Send the damn couch back, demand that it be on THEIR dime. She's cost them more in bad publicity than she'd ever deserve in a lawsuit settlement anyway.

^Exactly...Get a refund and keep it moving. You want to hurt them, hit 'em in the pockets.

ITA. I don't think she "deserves" financial compensation... send the couch back or get another one in another color and your money back. A free couch should be enough.

I love you more than words can express.

And who exactly is she going to sue? Someone in China? Yeah, good luck with that.

It's terrible that the translation came off so offensively. She is correct to be upset that no American dealer checked to see the names of the products, but she's being ridiculous IMO. At most, it was an honest mistake I imagine.

Does anyone have any clues as to what a more accurate translation would be?

she's suing over a couch label? oh dear.

yes, she has a right to be upset, even offended that the word in question was used as a result of a software glitch or a mistake in translation. when translating into other languages for business purposes these sorts of things should be checked out (like coke did to ensure they didn't end up with "bite the wax tadpole" as their trade mark in china.)

i think that she should return the sofa, make some noise about it, and then get on with life. why on earth do you need monetary compensation for something like the name of the colour of your sofa?
