How to avoid buying duplicates?

if you're on the MAC file system, and unsure that you got a dupe, ask the MA to check to see what you've purchased in the past

I just know what colors I own, I have never doubted if I owned one allready... and I have 6 eye pallettes allmost filled now. Seems logic for me, but I can imagine if you have larger collections with lots of quads you might get into trouble

^, basically they ask for your name and address and record what you buy. i think they do this mainly so if you forget your foundation shade or w.e, they have you in the system.

plus they probably want to keep track of their customers somehow, haha.

I know most of what I own by heart, but I keep everything in an Excel spreadsheet, because my collection is starting to get huge. Its all nice and organized!

i just know what i have. my collection isn't very big though. usually if there's a colour i like but it seems even similar to one i already have, i just don't get it...because i HATE getting two different e/s colours and they turn out to be almost exactly the same

Mine is by memory too, I dont buy dups but I do tend to buy colors close to what I already have, only like half a shade off.

I keep a mini notebook in my purse. There are far more "wants" than "haves" on it though. But it was a big help for the MA at the pro store who made a palette for me last weekend. I keep a seperate page for each type of makeup.

i have my record at Mac's data base
the only problem is not everytime i go there they put it into the data base plus my cco buys and trades.

So it can help but not a whole lot haha

I have a program called HandyShopper on my Treo and I just jot what I'd like or have an interest in. It also keeps track of prices and tax, which is very helpful. And, it's a free program!

I just remember everything.
I do have a great memory though, so that makes it easy.

I do have a list of all my products though, I add to it each time I get something new then email it to mum, my sister and my fiancee, so that when they buy me gifts they wont get duplicates (Im hard to buy for because the only things I really like a clothes, shoes and cosmetics, so its easier for everyone if they buy me MAC )
