how do I go about freelancing ?

Call a counter/store and ask who the freelancing manager is and which counter/store he or she is located. Apply at that location as a freelancer.

Not trying to be a downer here, but didn't you start the "I'd never work for MAC" thread about our counter policy of only wearing products that MAC has available for purchase?
Because freelancers (or "on call artists") are *absolutely* expected to adhere to that policy.... just wanted to warn you because you seemed very passionate about it. It's non negotiable - part of the job.
