how to wear f/l in royal wink? help plz!

how can i use f/l in royal wink w/o looking like i stepped out of the 80's???

Make sure you use either a very neutral eye and a very thin line of royal wink- or you can use it as an eyeliner with a purple/blue, taupe, or even a bronzy smokey eye.

For some reason I think it would look nice as a liner with a matte black eye? Royal + black is making a comeback.
