Hey everyone,

I have an important dinner to attend tomorrow at 6 PM, and I can only imagine it's going to be a little stuffy inside the restaurant and my face is going to secrete some oil. I am meeting the boyfriend's family for the first time, so this is a big deal! Haha.

What are your tips to keep your foundation looking smooth and fresh on your face? I have used MUFE, Clinique, Giorgio Armani, and I am now using Mac Studio Fix Fluid NC25. Each one has the same look after a couple of hours: separated, dry, and gross.

I am sure this has been asked before, but I am looking for techniques beyond what has been recommended.

I have both of Mac's prep + prime (spf and non-spf), oil control lotion, and their Studio Fix+ (the liquid solution). I don't use them all together, but I have tried them singled out and a combination. I also apply Mineralized Skin Finish over my foundation. These do not keep my makeup lasting longer.

I feel like my face is a hopeless canvas for good-looking makeup. None of it works to keep my foundation looking okay after a few hours. Even when I touch-up, it either takes off my foundation or look really powdery.

I have acne-prone, combination skin, so a full coverage foundation is necessary. Red spots show through if I switch over to a dewy foundation--it doesn't provide enough coverage.

Can anyone help? Thank you!

Edit: I am not looking to single out any products, maybe I am applying the stuff I have in the wrong way/steps. If you have your tricks using these products, please feel free to tell me your steps!

I tihnk a good primer should do the trick. I personally don't find the MAC primers any good, especially for my oily skin.

To keep my oily skin from ruining my foundation, I usually use some Milk of Magnesia to control my oil, then a smooth silicone primer to smooth out my skin to ready for foundation (I use Monistat Anti-Chafing gel)
And to keep fresh, I use blotting papers instead of caking on more powder.

I'm sorry if you didn't want to see recs on other products >_< but Fix+ & MAC primers do nothing for my oily skin..

What's your skin care routine like?... I have (had

) super oily skin but have gotten it under control with a good skin care routine (cleanser, "toner" and lotion all formulated to mattify 2x daily, a "chemical" exfoliator/tone corrector nightly, manual exfoliation 2x weekly and so on) and the proper products. I also use a silicone face primer (have used 2 department store brands interchangeably, neither of them MAC) and found my HG foundation and haven't looked back since. No more foundation seperating, no more applying almost a full face of make up again in the middle of the day, and nearly no shine throughout the day as well.

I think a good skin care routine is the first step in calming down oily skin. And as for foundation, anything with a dewy, radiant finish isn't right for oily skin. Matte, semi-matte or maybe natural is what you'll need.
