I can't do it!!!

I just can't create the "MAC eye".

I've even looked at some of the tutorials here, and I just can't do it.
:huh2:
I go to the MAC counter, and the MA have the perfect killer eyeshadow: Beautiflly shaped, beautifuly blended. Placement of crease color - perfect.

Even eyeshadow color combos - I tried to pull something off yesterday, and it just looked wrong. (Pastorale pigment on lid, soft brown in crease, shroom on brow) BLAH!!!

Is there some magic trick I'm not getting? Any tutorials on here that you guys think are "really" helpful in creating that pefect eye?
How about color combos? Anyone recommend good color combos?

There are plenty of tuts and diagrams for color placement, but it still takes practice and tweaking to get the look that's good for/to you. I'm still learning, but it feels great when the chicks at the counter compliment my eyes

Well the 'perfect eye' is a vague description. Every girl at my counter wears their eyeshadow a different way. So it would be hard for someone to give tips when they are unsure of the look desired. Is it the intencity (sp?) that you like, the color combos, or the placement. If you have a picture, that may help somone give you some really good tips.

I guess pictures would help, wouldn't they???
I'll take a couple of pictures and post it later for critiquing. But in the mean time, what I'm referring to is:
1) Eyeshadow placement and how it is shaped across the lid.
2) Placement of the crease shadow and how that is shaped on the lid.
3) Color combinations. A "paint-by-number" guide would be perfect for a newbie like me.

Specktra is a great resource. There’s a lot of information here. Study and practice -- I'm quite sure you'll get the look you're going for.

It might also be beneficial for you book an appointment to get your makeup done at your MAC counter. It's $40 (or close to that, varies by locations) and the $40 is redeemable in products at the end. You can tell them what kind of look you want them to do or have them suggest something. It really helped me to watch how they apply different products and I asked a ton of questions. Sometimes I still book an appt just to learn something new and different and I'm going to spend the $40 there anyway, so why not get my makeup done?!

Check with your local MAC counter to see if they are holding any seminars. Im going to my first one on 2/24. The MA at Macy's told me they teach you about the make-up, brushes and how to apply.

Practice Practice Practice! I tried for months and then one day I got it. I still have my off days but honestly its in the blending most people whose make up looks really good is blended nicely. Dont give up, good luck.

We're paid to do that! A lovely compliment... thank you! But we all do different things, though the so-called "MAC eye" allegedly refers to putting the darkest shadow on your inner crease (closest to your nose) as opposed to your outer crease (furthest away). Most of it is because we use a range of highgrade brushes. A poor quality brush will not give you the same ability. Did you paint in school? Remember the cheap brushes no one wanted to use because they just didn't work? Same principle.
