That's right! I got a sty!!! I never got one before and I swear the whole time I was at the doctors office (I didnt know it was a sty) he waslike well did you do anything to provoke it? And I was like no....only cause I wear makeup everyday so I didn't think it was that. I mean I didnt put my fingers in dirt and then rub my eyes. So after they do their tests he was like, Its a sty. Do you wear makeup?

And i was liek yea im a makeup artist.

and then he goes on and on about how makeup causes styies and etc etc and how I should "cut down" on wearing makeup.

ugh. well. my eye is better today but yesterday I couldn't even open my eye.

Hmmm, wearing makeup causes styes? Interesting because one of my best friends gets them all the time and I can guarantee he does not wear makeup

I do hope they get better soon. The doctor was probably just jealous at your make-up application skills.

My husband gets those about 3 times a year. He's seen a specialist about it, and it is caused by dust that enters the root, or follicule, of an eyelash. The best thing to do is to pluck the few eyelashes that seems to be at the root of the stye. And, to apply hot compresses about 4 times a day to get the bad stuff to come to the surface. But, it's not caused because of makeup!! Trust me, my husband does not wear makeup!! And if you're prone to getting them, try not rubbing your eyes and to change your pillow case at least a few times a week. It will disappear with time if you follow these tricks.

If you have any questions, let me know. I'm kind of the expert on that stuff, since it drives me crazy when my husband has one. It just bugs me, and bugs him even more.

A sty is exactly what tinagrzela said it is. its like a bacterial infection and causes a bump on or inside your eyelid.

tina: u know whats funny is that this is the first time ive ever got one, i had NO idea what it was!

I know what you mean!! I never got one, but the first time my husband got one, it was about 3 years ago. And I kept telling him that his eyelid was red, and he kept saying "it's gonna go away, it's nothing". And, after it didn't go away, we went to the doctor's and that's when he told us what it was. I had no clue those things existed before, and it was a word I had never herd before. So yeah, I "educated" myself about it lots, since he got his first stye a couple of months before our wedding! So, I was on a mission to get rid of that thing before it made an appearance in our wedding pictures.

i got one last year. its not visible its like inside my eyelid. i've done everything my doctor told me and it hasnt gone away yet. he said some stys can be there forever. He told me if i wanted i could get it surgically removed but he sees no point. I agree, You cant see it and i only know its there. Actually i forgot about it until i read this thread lol.

i had one for the first time last week, but the optometrist said it was kinda like a sty, but more of a eyelid issue. it was on the inside of my lower lid and it hurt to tough the outside cause it was all swollen. it looked like a pimple. my doctor told me to put a warm compress on it for a few minutes throughout the day and whatta-ya-know the sucker got bigger and finally popped. it was gone by the next day and a half. i just ran a towel under warm/hot water and placed it on my eye for a few minutes. he said to do it a few times a day but i did it whenever i could hahaha. i was freaked out at first cause after i did the warm compress the first time the bump like tripled in size hahaha.
good luck. if it doesn't go away you can always go to an opthomologist and get it lanced.

My son has gotten one before (nope, he doesn't wear makeup) -- his went away in just a few days. Hopefully yours will, too.

He has allergies, so I think that's what contributed to his.

My 6 year old niece gets them all the time too, but the doctor said it wasn't a sty she called it something else which is like a sty but more severe. She said something about her getting them because of the root of her eyelash, we haven't tried plucking out her eyelashes (don't think she'll like that very much). The doctor also told her that she'd be ok and that it's not that big of a deal but all the lil kids at school make fun of her and even her teacher tells her "maybe you shouldn't come to school with that ball in your eye" (even though the doctor has written her a note telling her that it's not contagious) so she comes home all sad, my poor baby. The warm rags don't really work on her either so she might have to get surgery but the doctor doesn't really want to do it because she is so young.

here's a natural remedy for ya':

to closed eyes as many times/day as possible
1) apply warm black tea bags
2) apply finely grated raw potato wrapped in cheesecloth

i used to get stys all the time when i was a teenager.
for me treating them with a warm compress is what i found worked best.

i have been told that rubbing gold (must be yellow) on a sty helps as well, but i've never tried it.
