I looked WASHED OUT by day's end. HELP!

What's some tips on keeping your makeup fresh all day? By the time I get home, I literally looked washed out. My waterline eyeliner is completely gone, my foundation is blotchy, ...I look like someone poured a bucket of water over my head and I just sat and let everything dry
lol.gif

Oh, and I could have sworn I have dry skin, but after a couple hours of wearing my foundation, my skin is soooooo oily looking ...like I'm sweating

Does this come from not setting foundation? I'm using Maybelline's liquid foundation.

Thanks!

You might be using all the wrong products for your skin type. This is what usually causes makeup to run. The foundation might be oil based and should be oil free. You might need a primer on your eyelids to make sure your ES stays on no matter what and your eyeliners should also be waterproof.

And after you apply all the non oily products you need to spritz on some Evian water or Fix and powder over your whole face just to ensure your makeup lasts all day

using a good primer underneath all of your makeup will make SUCH a difference!!! i really recommend smashbox photofinish primer or mac prep + prime. for an eyeshadow primer, urban decay primer potion is the most amazing thing i've ever tried! i always had problems with creasing shadow before i used it, and now i never do!

also, setting your makeup by layering makes a big difference. for example, after you apply your primer and foundation, set it with a light dusting of powder, and use oil-blotting sheets during the day if you get oily. also, after you line your waterline with waterproof liner, go over it again with a small brush dipped in shadow the same color as the liner. this will help set it as well.

the last thing i recommend (and this will make a world of a difference!) is during the day, train yourself to not touch your face. i realized that i was absentmindedly wiping off tons of my makeup during the day just by accident, like when i was sitting resting my hand on my face or something.

hope this helped lady!

i have/had the same problem as you, i actually made a topic asking for suggestions also. i have done some things that made a difference, for example.. i've used a foundation primer. i use the one from bare minerals, this makes a huge difference. my concealer applies really smoothly with a primer. also, i set it with the mineral veil and have noticed a big difference in the apperance of my foundation at the end of the day.

also, maybe liquid foundation isn't for you? i don't use liquid foundation, my face routine is basically:
1-primer
2-concealer
3-bare minerals foundation
4-mineral veil

maybe try a powder foundation and see how that works?

Hello miss Ebonienicole, instead of dry skin it sounds like you have combination skin. You experience oilyness are your nose area and forhead/eyebrow area, and dry in your cheeks and chin area if I'm correct? Or at least that how my skin is! What I do to keep my foundation lasting all day, shine free and matte looking, I take a cotton ball and dip it in a teeny bit of milk of magnesia and put a light layer or that in my greasiest areas (nose and forhead) then when it turns white I take a tissue put a bit of water on it and dab it right off. If you'd like you can add moisterizer to the dry areas of your skin but DON'T put it on top of the parts where you added the milk of magnesia. Then I put my foundation on top and my makeup stays FIERCE all day. I don't even use those shine control papers anymore lol I don't remember how I found that trick but it works great for me and my best friend does it now.

Also as for your eyeliner, are you using liquid eyeliner on your water line? Make sure you use some type of kohl pencil, something that smudges well. If you use something "cheap" it probably won't last as long. Or do your eyes water a lot throughout the day?

Powder on top of the liquid foundation does help set it as well. But if you use the milk of magnesia trick I guarantee your makeup will stay fresh all day.

I agree, primers and fixers are the way to go. You'll have to experiment with which products work best for you and your skin type. I set my foundation with MUFE HD Finishing Powder and then spray with MUFE Mist & Fix and I swear by it. Also for the waterline I recommend MUFE Aqua Eyes Pencils.

LOL can you tell that I like Make Up For Ever? There is a reason why the brand is called that, though ;-)

Always always always set your foundation lol Seriously just a light dusting of translucent powder to set your foundation makes all the difference. Now my personal preference for this is ,Laura Mercier Translucent powder its one of my Holy Grail products! Then i use the MAC 187 brush.Ill put a little powder in the lid then swirl the brush into it,tap off the excess and apply to face. Also as the day goes on and your face gets oily don't reapply powder it will only make you look cakey. So either use blotting papers or cheap tissue.I say this because blotting tissues can get expensive so cheap tissue is a cheaper option. But you want the cheap tissue because the more expensive ones might have added in lotions and moisturizer to make them softer. And you don't want to add lotion or moisturizer to your face when your trying to do the exact opposite lol And also more expensive tissue is usally at least 2-ply and it can leave tissue dust behind on your face. The cheap tissue is usually kind of rough and always 1-ply so it wont.

And for eye makeup like shadow you should use a primer under your eyeshadow. But for your eyeliner on your waterline im afraid there's not much more you can do then keep reapplying it.Or find one that is made specifically for the waterline, there designed to last a bit longer then a typical liner.I have the MAC Technakohl Eyeliner and its meant to last longer on the waterline.SO that might be something you would want to checkout. One that ive yet to try but will soon is i think its called Smashbox waterproof Jetset Eyeliner. Its like a gel liner that you apply with a bent eyeliner brush but you can apply it directly to the waterline, which is something you cant really do with a regular gel liner. So that may be something you might like to check out also.Heres a link to a video on QVC and you can see how its applied.smashbox Waterproof Jet Set Eyeliner with BrushNo. 21 - QVC.com

I have to say though that i dont like the use of Face Primer used for everyday. Its different from person to person but i find that it makes alot of people breakout badly when using it everyday. But its your choice. If you were going to use any Face Primer for everyday use then i would suggest perhaps Smashbox PhotoFinish Light.

You said you think you have dry skin but get oily throughout the day.Do you get oily allover or just the t-zone? I think you need to figure out if your dry, oily, or combination.Because if your oily then i would say that using an oil free foundation is a must. But if you skin is dry but gets oily badly as the day goes on then perhaps your using a moisturizer that isn't right for your skin type. And it could also explain your blotchy foundation.Because certain moisturizers don't work well with certain foundations. So that might be part of your issue. Can i ask what kind of moisturizer you use before applying your makeup in the morning? Or even you use one?

A quick press against the face with a square of cheap toilet paper works too. I've also read about people using toilet seat covers to blot - apparently the material is similar to blotting paper - but I have no personal experience of that.

Yeah when i said tissue i meant either box tissue or toilet tissue too lol Ive also heard of people using toilet seat covers. But personally i would never in a million blot my face with anything found in a public restroom lol Its shocking what sort of things go on in public restrooms,i say avoid them completly if possible, unless its an emergency then still, squat! haha

Oh and another is,you know when you buy a single roll of toilet tissue aka toilet paper lol And it has the thicker outter covering, basically the same material as a toilet seat covering? Well you can use that as a blotting paper aswell.Just be sure to use the inside of it.Itll do in a pinch.Plus i mean its ok because its from your own bathroom and its an unused roll.

This was happening to me too! What works for me is to blot my face mid-day with blotting papers. Then right after, reapply a matte or blot powder. You want to get the oil off your face so your makeup isn't affected which is where the blotting papers come in. It helps soo much!
