I know!! At Macy's sometimes the girls just won't quit and it gets to be so obnoxious and I know my manager is annoyed! I don't want to be that girl either but this is killing me!!!

I would say give it at least a week....If your interview was on Monday, I personally would call the Wednesday of the following week (so that the weekend is over, etc)...but this is just me. In general, you want to give them enough time to review you interview/interview other people & you don't want to call on a weekend.

No, you don't want to be a pest; but at the same time, you have to make it known you *want* this job!!

It looks encouraging to a manager to have a prospective employee make it known they are interested in the job.

There may be many reasons why you weren't called back. One of them is that they may be screening other candidates (as great a candidate as you are, I'm sure you know the manager still must go through all the other people in line for the job). Number two reason is that they are obviously quite busy, and maybe cannot get around to calling as soon as they (or, you!) would like...

As said before, you don't want to OVERdo it...but if they still haven't tried to reach you a week after the interview, it's prudent to put in a quick call reminding them that YOU are THE one-and-only person for that job!

Good luck (I'll put in good thoughts for you!!)

Nordies is notorious for taking their time in the hiring process...be patient...but call the asst dept manager if you don't hear anything by next Monday...good luck!

Call. MAC positions are highly coveted and difficult to get, so call the cosmetics manager and be polite and friendly, but show your interest. If you want the job, take the reins!

Aaaah thank you so much guys for all of your helpful tips!! I think everyone at my work and my family is sick of me talking about this already and as I was coming home today a lightbulb went off in my brain as I thought.. "The girls on Specktra would know!!" You haven't proved me wrong!!

To make matters even worse there is a counter manager position open in Lancome and yesterday my cosmetics manager asked me to apply for it. Well I love her so much I had to tell her the truth about my application at Nordstrom. These were her exact words: "You little shit." Mind you, she smiled as she said them.

There's nothing wrong with applying for the counter manager position (If it's something you'd be interested in) at the same time that you are being considered for MAC...especially if they are at two different locations.

Just don't accept any positions until you've heard from both...since Nordies & Macy's fall under the same company.

What do you mean by that? Nordstrom and Macy's aren't at all connected in any way...?

Right, Nordstrom is still independently owned by extensions of the Nordstrom Family, a venture capital firm and shareholders.

Not Federated Department Stores - which is the parent company of Macy's, Bloomingdales...

The only thing is I don't really want to work for Lancome.

If I don't get to work at MAC I am happy staying with Lauder.

Since it is the weekend and anyone in retail is sure to be busy, I would drop off a nice thank you card to the manager you interviewed with. Just write a quick note thaking her for her time and that you are looking forward to hearing from her. Keep it brief, no need to get into how much you want the job etc. just thank her. It's very professional and not soemthing everyone thinks to do. Then, go ahead and call on maybe tuesday

Ahh crap. I had this same idea on Friday but my husband and I had out of town plans with family and I didn't have any time.

Now it's sunday. I haven't heard anything so I think I am going to call tomorrow. I don't know what to say, I get nervous about on the phone stuff and sometimes I stumble over my words.. AAAAH I just don't want to mess this up I feel like I am so close......

PS.. is this typical of Nordstrom to make you wait this long after your interview?? Anyone work at Nordie's and thought this too??

My Nordie's and MAC interview process took me forever. Keep in mind, they have to coordinate between both MAC and Nordie supervisors and wants/meeds.

That's what I figured. I actually decided a week is decent time to call and harrass them..
smiles.gif
SO I called today. The cosmetics assistant manager (whom I interviewed with) had the day off so I left her a voicemail using the oh so professional "I just wanted to touch base with you" blah blah blah
smiles.gif
Actually this may sound weird but hearing her voice on the phone was kind of comforting to me because it reminded me of how awesome she is and how well my first interview went.
smiles.gif
Now watch. She'll call while I'm at Lauder update tomorrow and can't answer my phone. :crap:

Maybe you should change your voicemail tonight to say something like "This is Violet and I will be at a training for work today from 9:00am until 5:00pm. Please leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible."
You can do something like that but word it in a way that sounds professional yet personable.
