I'm desperate

Well, I'm $200 short for my bills this month, and I am only on the schedule for 3 days this month. There is a chance I may get called in to cover a shift or two, but I can't live with this much uncertainty.

I need a job.

I can't quit MAC-it's opened so many doors for my future that I can't give up on it quite yet-and when I do work, you can't beat the pay, but this freelance thing isn't working for me right now (this is the least I've been working since I started). At the suggestion of my manager at the store I work at & cirucmstances beyond my control, I quit my other 2 jobs to give MAC my complete attention & now I have no hours. Almost everyone at my counter is new so there won't be a position opening there anytime soon & at the free-standing store there are at least 2 freelance girls that are ahead of me in getting a permanent position.

I'm student teaching now so I can't work during the day (or Weds/Thurs nights-I have class). I understand that I need to have teaching experience blah blah blah, but this slave labor is keeping me from having the real job I desperately need. Why does ever other major get paid internships but in education???

Does anyone know of any place in NYC/LI that would be willing to let me work 4pm-whenever on Mondays, Tuesdays & Fridays? Or does anyone on the inside know of any permanent MAC positions that are/will be opening soon? (I'd have weekend availability in that case). I've checked the job postings religiously, but nothing in this area yet. I make my goals, can get a really good recommendations from my RMs, come in & take my breaks on time & all that. My AUS/IPT could be better, it averages in the lower $40s, but that's the average for the location I'm at.

On a cynical note-to everyone considering a freelance position, don't take it as your only job if you've got real bills to pay.

I've been crying & stressing for a few hours so I'm sorry for the extra long rant.

I'm very sorry to hear that you are short on bills, I know the feeling and being tight on money is ALWAYS a major stressor.

Have you thought of bartending or waitressing? The hours would fit in and you would still be able to keep the freelance position. I wish I could offer more.

to add to what Janice said- the great thing about bartending/waitressing, you make some good money, in little hours.. When I bartended- I made MINIMUM of $30 or so an hour... and that was in ultra conservative Grand Rapids, MI, imagine the possibilities in NY!!!

I'm so sorry!! That is hard working part time and student teaching. Most schools don't recommend having jobs when you student teach - so to do that and work is amazing. Waitressing sounds like a much better option than turning to convenience stores which I would not do in a city. I know the money crunch feeling all too well. Its way too stressful for my liking (I'm short this month too, there is never enough for everything!!)

Thanks ladies. I actually never thought about that-just figuring that since I didn't have weekend availiability it wouldn't be an option, but it's still worth checking out.

My school doesn't recommend having a job while student teaching either, but since they took all of my financial aid away & are not paying my bills their recommendations have to fall upon deaf ears.
I just have to get through 2 months & 4 days & then I can start a real life.
