No matter how much I want something, no matter what I say, I never do it!

For example: i told myself i'm going to study over this summer...its been 3 weeks into summer and I haven't touched a book! How do I get myself off of my ass and start doing things?

I'm the same way.

I've found that what works for me is considering the benefits of getting off my ass and what good it could do me.

My daughter is my muse, so I keep her in mind when I need some motivation.

I'm like that too with some things. I always wait until the night before to study for tests, last minute homework, good thing I still manage to get good grades. No matter how much I tell myself I need to stop I don't, I'm a big procrastinator.

Maybe start small, tell yourself to study/read 20 minutes a day then work your way up. I did that with working out because I thought it was so boring, I started with 20 mins a day and now I'm at an hour or sometimes an hour and a half.

I usually find that if I do a little bit and reward myself I feel more motivated. For example. Spend half an hour doing some studying and then reward yourself with either a piece of chocolate or 10 minutes watching Sex and The City or something like that. That way you feel less bored!

I think you just need to DO IT, just sit down and study, pretend your tv is broken, pretend your computer is broken, you have no cell phone and your parents just grounded you.

Or better yet, have someone take away all your posessions, and after a few hours of not being able to do nothing, you will open a book out of sheer boredom.

Limit yourself to 1-2 hours a day, and if you dont study for 1-2 hours, ban yourself from going out with your friends, works for me, maybe it was better off procrastinating because i ended up getting pregnant on one of those nights i did my work and went out, heh.

If you really want to study, find a comfortable and quite area (I mean a good desk, chair, light, not a bed or a couch because it'll make you sleepy) to focus on your homework. No talk to friends, family, don't pay attention to what other people are up to. Internet using should be limited because I usually find myself surfing net or chatting with my friends (like I do now

IMO, two hours or so of concentration is so much better than sitting all day with a laptop on a couch talking to friends and trying to do homework.
The most important thing though is your determination. Think about a better job, better future, more money, more makeup stuff

, all of that usually comes from hard work

I am EXACTLY the same...Even though you have things to do, doing nothing is always the more attractive option right? lol. I'd like to think that the fact that i'm 18 with virtually no responsibilities is the cause of that attitude I have.

BUT, when I know I have something that is unavoidable - studying for exams, for example - I never EVER confine myself to time slots or say I'm going to study for such and such amount of time. Instead, i choose one topic to cover and do that. If that takes 1 hour or 5 hours (obviously with plenty of breaks!) then so be it. Afterwards, i do whatever i please.

But that's just me. i can look at a book and nothing else all the livelong day but if i'm not going to pay attention - what's the point. Integrate studying into your lifestyle, not the other way around

I've found the easiest way to stay motivated it to have several lists:
Daily Goals
Short-term Goals
Long-term Goals

'Daily goals' are things you have to do everyday ie: Work out, homework, work work, read, etc.
'short-term' are things like papers, losing 10 lbs, finishing a book (give yourself a time frame that you have a deadline for.)
'long-term' look years ahead. For example,I want to own a nice house and have a law-firm. That keeps me motivated. I also want to remain thin, so I use that as motivation to work out.

Basically what I'm trying to get at is figure out what you want to get out of your time and actually work toward it.

When I am discouraged from studying I just look at my rent checks and my bank statement and decided that I want more income so the faster I finish school the faster I get more money and a house.

Hope that helps.

If you never get it over with you will be disappointed in yourself probably for the rest of your life. We only get one chance on earth so don't be lazy, see what it has to offer.

i used to be the same way especially with studying. What i do is i tell myself i have to get a certain grade like i cant get lower then a B and then i think if i achieve that i reward myself with like mac for example and you know what it actually works.

The same thing can go with pretty much doing anything just think to yourself something u want and work towards it .. it helps me
a lot

I'm that way too, I have recently discovered that It's not the things we do that make us tired, but the things we don't - Think about it, when you keep putting things off things pile up and then you have so much to do you are overwhelmed and even though you think about it all the figgin time ( the list of things you have to do) you think there is too much and never start, but you worry about it wearing you out.
The best thing to do is simply make yourself.

Say today i will spend X hour doing Y
then when X comes around do Y , after 21 times of doing that you will create a and it will b/c easier to you.

In the end you are the only one that can change your habits and YOU have to hold yourself accountable =)
