Hey gals, I'm 14 and I just recently started viewing MAC's website, and I'd like to have a look around their store in my favorite mall in Scottsdale. I have absolutely nooo experience with MAC's products, but I can obviously tell from all of these threads that it is fantastic!

Anyone like to share some basics and/or answer a few questions? Bare with me, this is all new to me!

1. Okay, when I go in there, should I ask someone to show me which products would go with my features/skin type?
2.) My friends Shea and Lauren also wanted to know if they gave free makeovers..

<-- Lol!

Feel free to share anything and everything about Mac! By the way, do their collections sell out fast? When do they change their collections? What colors/products are most popular? Should I buy their brushes, or are mine okay? (I have a lot of Bare Escentuals' brushes.)

Much love, and thank you for any help.

I hope this helps you some.

When you go into the store or counter, I would tell them that you are brand new to MAC. They will work with your skintone and features.

I don't know if there are proms still going in your area, so they may charge you $40.00 as a fee for a makeover. They may charge you that fee anyways because it varies from counter to counter. My counter never charges me because I go there all the time. I think that it really depends on how busy they are as well.

I have a feeling that Lure will sell out fast. The line is beautiful and very complementary to many skintones. They have a new collection (some are bigger than others) about every 2 weeks.

The most popular products I think are the mineralized skin finishes--msf for short. They are limited edition (LE) and come out 2 times a year. They are like blush but can be used all over the face and even as a shadow. The last collection that had msfs was Lingerie, Dec. 2005. Rumor has it that they will be back later on this year. It could be July, August or later on. I am not sure.

Color popularity is very individual, I feel. Parrot eyeshadow is very popular but that is because it was LE and has been sold out for years. You can find duplicates in other make up lines.

I don't know anything about BE brushes, so I am not sure if you need new ones. I would make due with those for the time being. If you like MAC, you will be spending a lot just to get started. I know I did and it's been that way ever since. Yay! =) No, seriously, MAC is an awesome product and you will be very happy with them.

I almost forgot about the Back To MAC (B2M) program. When you buy a product: shadow, blush, empty shadow pots, etc. and you finish it, save the package that contained the product, not the box. When you have 6 empties you take them back to MAC and can get a free lipstick that is NOT Viva Glam or LE special packaging, like the Icon. It is an amazing recycling program.

1.) Yes and you'll also get great help here.
2.) No. It varies from store to store, but it's roughly around $40-50 for a makeover which is redeemable in product.
3.) Collections will sell out fast depending on a.) the collection and how popular it is and b.) where your store is located. I don't know how busy the Scottsdale store is, but my counter will sell out in about 3-7 days of the popular items.
4.) Collections will pop up mayyybbbbeee about twice a month. Keep an eye peeled here on the "color stories" sections.
5.) Colors and product popularity should depend on you. I'm a 26 year old NC35 Asian so what looks good on me might not necessarily look good on you. Go to the store and ask for suggestions. You can find the old classics such as Parrot and MSF's on ebay and such, but sometimes they are reintroduced (two MSF's are apparently coming back next month?)
5.) I've only got a couple MAC brushes and a whole bunch of other, cheaper ones. Some people might argue that you need certain brushes, but it all comes down to personal preference. You can find a bunch of cheaper brushes elsewhere. Some people even use artist's brushes.

Hope that helped!

Yay another young-ish person =) I'm 15. Apparently MAC has started to change collections quickly, I'm looking forward to the pigments in about two weeks, and Lure/Bait/Hooked just came out two days ago =P I just have a bunch of Estee Lauder brushes I got in one of those Holiday sets, and they work ok but none of them are really specialized for anything, so if your BE ones have specific purposes then they'll probably be awesome =)
