Is it possible to make the pigments finer?

I mean can I mill them to get the pigments like rose, steel blue and frost a bit finer and easier to use?

TIA!

An MA told me that they are the ones that are kinda lumpy to rub it with u'r finger to make it more a shadow texture. It works too..i've done it.

I mixed some of MAC's white pigment (the frosty white, I think it's DC but it's not THAT hard to find--ebay, mua, etc) into my jars of steel blue and dark soul. It definitely lightened my dark soul (I wanted a silvery gray), but it just made the steel blue SLIGHTLY lighter and wayyyyy more workable. I also added a destroyed Girlie eyeshadow to my rose pigment and it's AWESOME now. Same color but really fine and smooth. But as far as leaving the pigments as is, I'm not sure... Good luck!

I wonder if you pat a little of it down into a solid, then tried to get some on a brush if the particles would be smaller?

I don't know if this would work at all, but what if you tried mixing some of the pigment with a bit of alcohol and pressing it into a "mini-shadow" of sorts? I've seen one made of white gold I think, someone had just pressed some pigment into a little pan and was using it like a regular eyeshadow. Maybe the motion of running brush bristles over the product would break it up a little.

Edit: Oops, didn't see Lola's post above me

I pressed coco and kitschmas into pans and they're both the exact same texture on the brush as in the jar...just more portable for me.

do they crumble/flake off? an MUAer told me if I tried it they wouldn't hold.

What about getting a pestle and mortar (I think that's what it's called) It is the thing used to grind grain into flour. Maybe a small one from a kitchen store and it might break the chunks up?? I had the idea a while ago (love rose colour, hate the texture) but I never followed through. I might have to re-investigate.

I haven't had any flaking. I just got some rubbing alcohol at CVS and mixed it into a paste, waited and waited, then pressed it down tightly when it was almost dry. I just traveled with all of my quads (with the pigment pans in them) and they survived the trip without a problem.

You could use a very fine grind mortar and pestle, although easier I find for custom blendng and retexturing of powder products is to get a small electric spice mill/coffee mill and use that.
