Is this a fake MAC lipstick?

It's extremely questionable to me but I thought it best to post here to be sure. I purchased the Russian Red from MAC last week. I received in swap the Ruby Woo this week which is the one I think is not authentic. Any help is appreciated... and I hope I attached the picture correctly

Hi - Ruby Woo lipstick is originally from the old Retro Matte collection if I remember correctly, back from 1999, maybe?? That packaging is the older packaging for lipsticks that MAC had. It just might be an older version.
I'm not an expert on the shape - that you need to ask the queen of counterfeit here: caffn8me.
If it is real, I hope it still smells like vanilla for you!

Edited to add: You never said if the lippie was used or not - If it was used - it might explain the shape.
But the "E" on the box is bothering me a bit. It does look off.

Take a look at this post http://specktra.net/showthread.php?t=55156 and compare the fake there to the one you have here. Theyre both very similar...

I pointed out several of those same things in my pics... and a couple of weeks back I saw that post you referenced so that got me thinking something fishy was going on

Even if it were authentic, as Terri says, if the packaging is from 1999 or earlier, I'm not sure I want to put it on my lips

I received it in swap as BNIB... so no, it has not been used.
Both of the lippies in my photo are brand new.

Ok thanks! That's exactly what I thought but wanted confirmation here. I think I did a lot of homework with my pics before I ventured to Specktra to see if my detective skills were up to snuff

I didn't really get "stung" though... it was a swap with a newbie, she sent first and I'll just send it right back.

Thanks to all for the re-assurance

Okay I think I'm completely and thoroughly done with this now

I contacted MAC today via live chat and they confirmed:
1) Ruby Woo has always been a Matte formula, it's never been released as an Amplified Cream and
2) Amplified Cream's were introduced in 2002/2003 so even if we could say the Ruby Woo lipstick was possibly in the old packaging, an Amplified Cream could not have been in the old packaging.

I've attached a pic of the final analysis.
Again, thanks to everyone here and on MUA for their input and feedback

I just received a ruby woo in the mail that looked like that fake. I bought it from an ebay seller who had a completely different photo to boot. Do I leave negative feedback? This person had 100 percent positive feedback.

Definitely contact the seller first. Let her know that you received a different lipstick then that was pictured, and that you think the Ruby Woo is fake. Explain why you think that it is fake.
Hopefully, she'll try to rectify the situation.
If not, try to get your money back and leave a negative.

Do bear in mind that the old style lipstick looked just like the fakes. There are extremely small differences between the fake lipstick and the old style genuine lipsticks. The more obvious differences are in the box. How about you post a picture?
