the SA said that's the only thing they don't give samples for

She said it's cos they last for ages which i understand but people here have had samples and i would've loved just the tiniest amount enough to experiment and see if i'm any good at working with them. It's not the same testing it in the shop. Oh well i might just end up buying one anyway.

You need to buy at least one pigment, they are great you can use them as e/s, highlighter, mix them with lipgloss and clear nail polish and add shimmer to body and hair (set with hairspray).Vanilla is great to start with as is Melon and the LE pigments for D'Bohemia collection are great as well.

I loved Rose, it looked beautifull and had gold bits which i thought would go well on me as i am NC43.
How do you get it to stay on your eyes/face?

The MA was a liar. They do give out samples of pigments, that's how I first tried Violet. *shakes head in disgust* I have got most of my pigments from MUA but I most recently bought a full size jar of Coco.

The way to get the pigment to last longer is to apply it wet. I use MAC's Mixing Medium but you can use visine in a pinch. Dampen the brush a little and then dip it into the pigment. This also deepens the color.

I'm not really impressed by rose, I cannot use it as a shadow, because it's getting all over your face! As a first pigment, try tan. it's pretty, and really usefull as an e/s, and a bronzer, you can put this in some bodylotion or sunscreen to make you whole body glow, put it through a clear lipgloss, this color can do it all!

I just bought my first pigment, I started off with Vanilla. I was nervous to use them and to be honest I'm not even quite sure how to apply them. I used it as a brow highlighter but I used my finger

ops: to apply it. I want to get Tan next but I don't want to invest in anymore until I have learned how to use them properly. Once I get more famaliar with them I am DYING to try out Violet it looks gorgeous!!!

That MA sucks, because I've gotten generous pigment samples from assorted SAs. I'd go back another time and ask again (diff SA of course).

Oh that's really crap, i can't afford to buy things like that which may not work for me. Even the tiniest sample to take home and try in my own time would have been usefull for me and i would've probably ended up buying it anyway.
Well atleast they stock the pigments, i was told here that it's be very rare to find a counter that stocks them.

My MA's have always been very generous with the samples. I have loads of sample pigments, fluid line, paints. I think it helps if you are a regular at the events or counters. I have heard some friends say that they didn't get anything when they asked for it. You might try looking on ebay for some sample lots. You can get a lot of color that way. They usually run about $1.50 to $2.00 each.

I've gotten samples of pigments from my MAC store. They are gorgeous & deliver high impact color & last all day.

The only reason I don't use these more, is the convenience issue. I find loose powders more time consuming to apply & store. So I tend to stick to the pressed shadows. BUT, there are colors that I just can't get lookalikes in pressed form like Violet & Tan.

that ma was not being truthful alt all! they DO give samples.. of anything! go to another ma/sa and ask for a sample... pigments are great! ita with groupie.. try tan pigment as the 1st.. it's super pretty and very versatile.. it's one of my faves, as is rose, melon, copper sparkle and blue storm..

I've accumulated quite a big collection of pigments and I've tended to invest in the big jars and swap away half. For someone starting out, I'd pick a very versatile color that you'd get more use from. You can always decant samples and swap for other colors. I'd recommend buying something like Vanilla or Deckchair.

Rose is one of my least favorites. Ick.

There's been a lot of stories of how people got ripped off buying fake MAC pigment samples.

i was a little nervous doing it, but i took the chance and the girl i got them from was pretty decent. the samples were great. i bought them in a lot, instead of one little sample at a time. i have enough to hold me over and play with now!

Looks like she did lie, or maybe she hadn't a clue as she's the same one i was complaining about in a another thread. I went to Mac today and a the guy who i think has been there a long time and knows alot of stuff gave me a sample as soon as i asked

I got vanilla and it's so good! I thought it would look really white but it's so sheer that it looks lovely.
