Joe Lieberman threatens to leave the Democrats- thoughts?

Well we haven't had very many politically charged discussions on here lately so I decided to come up with one.

This is what I've heard on boortz.com:

Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman says if Democrats move to cut off funding for U.S. troops, he'll switch to the GOP. That would end the Democrats' majority in the Senate and put Harry Reid back in the minority leader's office. Some may think there's no way he'll do that. But those are probably the same people that didn't think he'd run for re-election as an Independent after losing the Democratic primary.

That would be something, wouldn't it? Here you have the 2000 Democratic nominee for vice president talking about moving to the other side. He's already not really a Democrat...having continued to run for Senate after losing the Democratic primary in 2006. So why not make the switch? He is currently aligning himself with a political party that opposes the War On Terror and promotes a policy of Islamic terrorist appeasement.

If he doesn't change his mind, he'll be switching. Democrats aren't going to quit trying to stop the war in Iraq...and cutting off funding is the next logical step.
How about switching to the Libertarian Party?

Now I gotta say this for my peace of mind. I like Joe Lieberman. He does his own thing. I do think that Both parties need to get their act together. And the best part of all of this- if this does happen and Joe does actually switch- that can be a very short time for Speaker Pelosi.

This really isn't a question about agreeing or disagreeing with the war this post-it's more of a question of What do we think of Joe Lieberman. Because quite frankly we know what most people think of the war - the horse is DEAD.

But that's just me.

Your thoughts?

I don't like him but I don't dislike him, if that makes any sense.

I didn't realize that would be such a deal breaker for him. Like- I could see switching parties if he were displeased with more than that (like several issues). I'm not saying it's not a big issue, but I don't align myself with every view of my party (Green) but the majority. I actually disagree with them a bit on the death penalty, which I consider to be very big issue.

I think he and some other people would be better off forming a moderate party or find a party that already exists like that. They would have majority power easily and it would make more sense, IMO.

OMG I hate this guy. lol He's such a moron ... always throwing a hissy fit about something and nobody seems to ever care what he has to say. He's pretty much a Republican without the official title ... at least in my eyes.

You know it makes a lot of sense. I'm in the same boat with you on that as well.

I think too that if a group of people formed an even road that's right between the two parties and actually had their act together I think there would be a huge public backing. So I totally agree with you on that one!

I don't care for the man. I don't agree with a lot of his opinions, but in the long run, I really don't think it matters anymore which party someone belongs to anymore. I feel like the two main parties have the same agenda and the only difference is that they persue it for different reasons.

It's an interesting situation since I don't think that a vice president nominee has ever "switched sides", but I really can't see this as impacting the country on a monumental level.

I think Lieberman is a pragmatist, which I like.. But he's also a bit of a drama queen, which I don't like. He's on of the few politicians whose ideals cross party lines, and that's admirable to me, because I don't adhere to one presumed set of ideals, either. I loathe the job that Democrats are doing -- they bitch all day and then the only ideas they have are bad ones. Of COURSE it's ridiculous to cut funding for a war that is already a reality. If Dems weren't such stupid sheep and yes-men we might have never gotten into this mess in the first place. They're all talk, and it's infuriating. I don't blame Lieberman, and more power to him -- he's proven he can get elected no matter what party he is or isn't representing.
