Lash questions!

I have horrible problems with my lashes clumping when I put on mascara. On the very first swipe, they cling together at the ends and look very Twiggy-ish. I have tried so many different kinds: Cover Girl, Revlon, Elizabeth Arden, Clinique, Mary Kay... nothing seems to solve my problem. Anyone have any thoughts? or are my lashes just attracted to one another for some reason? (Ah, young love!) I just cannot make them look full and thick like on the commercials.

Also, fake lashes... anyone use them? Any way to use them so they don't look so fake? Trim them down?

How many questions can I fit into one post?

first, i know for a fact that the lashes on the commercials are photoshopped, so dont feel bad if you cant get your lashes to look like them!

when you take the mascara wand out of the tube, try lightly grazing it on a tissue before hand to take away the excess mascara which can cause clumping.

you can also BLINK your lashes through the wand instead of swiping the wand through them, i found this helps with clumping.

you can also use an old mascara wand and clean it off and use that to help separate them

i also found that the newer the tube of mascara the less clumping i get - for instance a brand new tube of Dior Show works amazingly, but once it starts getting older, it comes out drier and more clumpy.

otherwise, false lashes dont always have to look extravagant. they have shorter more natural looking falsies out there - i think theyre refered to as demis.you can also trim lashes to be shorter, but id definetly reccomend practicing of a few cheapo ardell pairs first!

In addition to those most excellent tips above, a lash comb might be a good idea as well! Metal ones work best, and Sonia Kashuk's duel ended one, one side being a brow brush of some sort, is the kind that I use, and it works just as it should.

Isn't too expensive, either!

Also, for fake eyelashes, if you just use a few individual clusters of them it will tend to look more natural than if you use a full band. But there are plenty of natural looking bands, as well. Ardell is definitely the place to start your experimentation with falsies! Good luck!

I'm definitely no lash expert, but one tip that's helped me is to "shimmy" the wand side to side as you move from root to tip. That sort of keeps the lashes from sticking vs. just pulling straight up.

sometimes it helps to blot off a little bit of the product on some tissue - if you have A LOT of product on the wand it'll make your lashes clumpy. also while applying mascara, wiggle the brush through your lashes as that will help prevent the clumping as well.

i always keep a handy-dandy lash comb with me. while your lashes are still wet you can run this through your lashes to "comb" them and help seperate them and loosen the clumps. any lash comb will do...i have some cheap plastic one (idk where i got it) and it works wonders - so try to find one if you can.

as for mascara, my mascara of choice has to be Maybelline Full 'N Soft. i also *really* like Lancome's Definicils - it's nice and BLACK and makes my lashes long and feathery - but it's waaaay expensive - $23.50 + tax

- and i'm a poor college student so i really can't afford it. Full 'N Soft is like, $5-6 lol. A lot of people swear by Diorshow mascara but imo it's just Full 'N Soft so why pay $22 when you can buy an equally-good mascara for $5-6? i hope this helps!
