~Lay Offs~

I work for a really great non profit orginization that has fallen on tough times. We are in the midst of laying people off today and it's so hard to watch. I have know my job was safe for a little while now but I can't imagine how these people feel. They are interviewing 1 by 1 with their immediate supervisor to learn their fate and going straight to HR for an exit interview. What really sucks is that we are a wonderful team. We all get along and really believe in our mission and what we do here. It's sad to say good by to them as they come out of the office. There is a total of 9 going home today =(

that does suck, I can see how you'd feel really uncomfortable. Ironically I am trying to get into the human resources field so I'm sure someday I'll have to be the person who fires people and handles all of that! That's no fun!

=( our HR lady is *SO* sad today. We have been planning this for a couple weeks and knew it was coming but I know the poor girl hasn't slept for a week. I assist in HR but I am so glad this is not in my job description!

I also got laid off from a non-profit organization. I guess thats what you have to expect when working for a N.P.O

I'm so sorry. I've considered working for HR and this is that one part that I could *not* handle.

seriously! . we used to get people who "SAID" they were gonna donate rather large sums of money. and it never showed. I blame the old director for 'counting her chickens before they hatched '
The money got spent before it even arrived (never arrived) she decided she needed a new office with office furniture BUILT..

Im Rather bitter. As she (it was an animal rescue) was in it for the Money and not the animals.

I know what your going thru. I had to sit thru some layoffs before I finally got laid off. . It sucks.. I left crying .. yeah I am a baby.

I have been on the other side of the layoffs...it sucks (but I worked for a private company, and the severance package made me feel a lot better!)...it must really suck to be the HR person in your organization...I know I would have had a really hard time with the layoffs....

I'm just glad it's over and done with. It ended up being 9 people who were laid off and 1 who retired after 31 years so a total of 10. Yesterday was hard but all we can do is pick up the pieces and move on and do our jobs to the best of our ability.

MxAxC - I can totally identify with the money not showing up. Thats always hard. In fact, we are still waiting on a 25,000 gift... it's totally been spent already... OOPS. At least thats not my department and I won't have to answer for it! Which animal rescue were you at? My friend is looking into starting one in our area for Pitties and is asking me to help out. Could be a fun side project.

I worked for a local one in Ventura, Ca. I dont know if they are still around or if they went under.
We rescued all dogs, we had a special lady who fostered our Pits, Its unfortunate that Pits have such an awful Reputation, when, If raised correctly they are soooo incredibly sweet!,They are actually one of my favorite breeds. My friend works for a animal rescue in Flagstaff, shes soon to be transferred to Phoenix. Im glad your friend wants to start a Pit rescue, they seem to be in dire need of rescuing!

SOOO Very true. If raised properly they are actually FOURTH from the BOTTOM on the list of dog bites. Quite an interesting fact if you ask me. They are one of my fav breeds too. I have a pit/lab mix and she is a wussie... even with the cats. It's pretty hilarious actually!
