Help me out here. Some perspective would be great.
I work at a school but I am not a teacher. One of the students has a dad that I "think" may be interested in me and I am interested in him as well. He has always been very sweet and so nice to me but was married so I never flirted or tried to pursue anything and he never made any advances or anything like that but I definitely got the "vibe" that maybe he thought I was cute. Anyway, back in April I got the feeling that maybe he and his wife were separated because I reminded him about an event we were having at school and he didn't know anything about it. Well, he ended up showing up with his son and I wasn't there 10 minutes and we had come across each other and he stopped me to talk. We ended up talking for about 15-20 minutes and then I had to go take care of some things so I excused myself. I saw him from a distance several times the rest of the day and I caught him looking at me several times. I didn't get to talk to him again b/c I was so busy.
Well, back in June (a few months later) his mom came to the office to take care of some tuition business for him b/c he had to work and she told me that he had told her to come talk specifically to me. She told me that he and his wife had been separated and he was responsible for all school bills and she presented me with a list he had made for me. He asked me to add his address to their account, send all bills to him, etc. His mom also told me that he had told her I would take care of everything!! So, my suspicions were confirmed about the separation and she told me he would be in to make another payment shortly.
Well, since then I've either seen him or talked to him at least once a week. About 2 months ago around the end of September, he came in to ask me if I had received a payment he had sent in the mail and I told him I had not and he said, "Well, I just sent it the other day so maybe it didn't get here yet." I thought this was kind of odd but I just let it slide. He stayed and talked to me for several minutes. He's just SO sweet and nice! The next week I was asked to help chaperone a field trip so I was gone all day on the field trip. When I got to work the following Monday, my boss (who is a total matchmaker and like a 2nd mother to me) had this huge grin on her face and said she HAD to tell me what happened while I was gone. I KNEW immediately she was going to tell me something about X (what I'll call him for now). She said that he came in and looked confused b/c I wasn't there. He asked where I was and she told him that I was on the field trip. She said he hesitated for a second and asked if I was married!!! She told him no I wasn't married and then he said he thought I was really sweet and would make such a great mom!! She was practically DANCING when she told me this story b/c she thinks he's great too and she said she would love to see me with a great guy after my last disastrous relationship!!
Well, I found out that the soon to be ex wife (divorce isn't final yet... I know, I know, bad news but he's so nice!!) is a little on the nutty side and she really screwed him over. She's dating someone else and he's trying to get sole custody of the child. Well, he emailed me a few weeks ago to tell me thanks for making sure he knows about school news and functions, etc. so I told him that we had a Halloween thing going on Halloween day and hopefully he could make it b/c the kids in his child's age group would be decorating pumpkins and having a small party. He emailed back again and said that is sounded fun and this was his favorite time of year and he hoped to see me soon!! I was SO excited!!
So... we have emailed a few times since and he did show up on Halloween. I dressed up as a witch and happened to be helping out a class with their pumpkins when I had someone tapping me on the shoulder. It was him! He had sought me out! After nearly knocking him over with my huge witch hat, I talked to him for a few minutes and he told me he loved my costume and if he didn't get to see me later to have a Happy Halloween. I ended up seeing him about an hour later as I was passing out some treats. I was leaning against this short fence we have and passing out the treats and he came and stood next to me. He kept fidgeting and finally leaned up on the fence next to me. He asked me how I was and once again said he liked my costume. He asked what I was doing that night (this was Halloween day) and I told him I would probably just stay home, pass out candy and watch scary movies on tv. He then asked me, "So, what are your hobbies? Do you like soccer or what do you like to do?" I was a little thrown off by the soccer but I told him sure soccer was fine but I liked to go to the movies and read and spend time with family and friends. He said, "Oh, ok. Um... ok. Well, thanks again for watching out for my son and um... well, ok I guess I'll talk to you soon." I told him Happy Halloween and watched him walk off to his car. I was just SO confused. I mean, WTF was that?? Soccer?? So, when I got home I emailed him a picture I had taken of his son from my PERSONAL email address and told him I was at home looking through all the pics I had taked and I asked him about the soccer thing. I asked what he had asked me about it for, if he played or did his son play? I then just said to have a great Halloween and I would talk to him soon. He wrote me back and said the reason he asked was b/c his work had talked about starting a soccer team and he thought I might want to join!! I was even more confused after that!! I didn't know what to think. My b/f thinks he is definitely interested but is maybe being cautious b/c of his situation and she said it seemed like he's kind of shy and was maybe nervous and the soccer was just something he pulled out of his ass b/c he didn't have anything to talk about. She said she thinks he HAD to talk about it in the email b/c I asked about it.
I emailed him back earlier this week and told him that while I didn't know alot about soccer I thought it could be fun and even if I couldn't play I would at least like to come watch. I thought that was being rather forward but I'm trying to show I'm interested and not just being passive. He emailed back and said that he thought they were on break until after the holidays but once they started up again he would make sure to get me out there. I don't know how to take that. I can't decide if he's just being friendly or what!! Again my b/f says that the fact that he's emailed me on his own and answers me every time I email him shows he's interested and I should just give it some time but it's SO frustrating!!! Tell me guys, what do you think??? I know the situation and timing isn't the best, but he's such a nice, sweet guy that I would like to think at some point there might be a chance. Opinions? Advice??? TIA!!!
