Foundation is used as overall coverage to even out your complexion, and concealer is is used to cover any imperfections that your foundation doesn't quite cover up. I also use MAC's tinted moisturizer as a foundation, and for concealer I use Select Moisturecover, to cover up any blemishes, circles under my eyes, redness around my nose...etc.
If you like the feel of Select Tint as your foundation, Select Moisturecover is a good concealer to go with. It's fairly light, as is the tinted moisturizer, but offers good coverage.

Foundation evens out your skin tone, masks irregularities on youir skin, helps to make your pores look smaller and provides a base for you to apply the remainder of your makeup. Foundation comes in a wide variety of finishes and has different degrees of coverage from very sheer (like a tinted moisturizer) that only evens out your tone to full coverage.

Concealer is usually more pigmented than foundation and is for spot application, it can be used for dark circles (and in that case, you select a shade lighter than your skin tone) and also can come in corrective tones like green (to counter redness), peach (to counter blue) and can be applied under or over your foundation. Concealers for the under eye area are of a more moisturizing nature (so it won't damage the delicate skin or enhance fine lines) and concealers for blemishes should be oil free.

The airbrush look is achieved when your skin looks flawless and it isn't obvious that you're wearing foundation. As for looking shiny, it depends of the type of finish you will choose for your foundations, if you're afraid of looking shiny go for a soft matte finish that usually has oil-control properties and doesn't reflect light. For combination-skin, I would recommend you setting your foundation with loose powder and keeping blot sheets on your purse if you do need to touch-up.

Hope this helps.
