I can always tell when its time to stop using something when it smells funny. Lip products are the only thing I have ever stopped using and they were the Tasti's that were out a few years back. I think powders and things should be ok for a while. Mascara is the one thing you should toss regularly cause of bacteria. Hope that helps!!

Supposedly your not supposed to keep anything in the bathroom.
I hate the smell of old lipstick. I like how MAC prints the year everything was made on the bottom so it's easy to tell how old it is.

It's on the product. For example, above my Emote blush it saids "A57". I'm not sure what A5 stands for but the 7 is for 2007, I think.

The A is for the batch or something, like they mass produce it so the first time they mass produce it its A then like 2 months later B, and if it was A5 doesnt that mean may of 2007? *i duerrno*

I don't think everything lasts for at least 5 years. Powder stuff should be okay but with lipstick and lipglass it really depends. My perfectly pink l/g didn't even last 8 months before it turned bad but my pure vanity lipglass is in perfect condition and I opened that a lot sooner. Just make sure it smells and looks the same.

It means it was produced in the first batch ("A") of May ("5") 2007 ("7").

I really like how they do that as well, so I can know how old a product is. I usually only toss if the texture, color, or smell becomes off, but it's still nice to know how old your products are.
