Mac Foundation Confusion

So I finally went to MAC to get a foundation and colormatched, well I ended up with the mineralize finish in NC 50. It works well but its slightly too dark, the artist said I should match my neck rather than the rest of my face. Some of my friends who have MAC they have a lower number and they're darker than me...But someone said each of their foundations is numbered differently. I'm so confused on what to do now. Should I go to another counter and get matched again? Or is the artist right? Thanks for any help on this as i'm new to makeup

an NW45 is usually darker than an NC45. It's just MACs system of numbering. I've learned to just not question MAC's foundation and just accept it.

If the color really bothers you, then go to another counter just to see what they match you up with (I wouldn't tell them what color you were previously matched to). Then be sure to check the color in daylight. Oh and yeah, different formulations' shades run differently in addition to the shades being off between NCs and NWs. So at the end of the day, wear whichever shade makes you feel comfy. Some ppl look more natural with their foundation matching their neck, some to their face, some to a middle color between the two. Checking the color in daylight will help determine what's best for you. Worst case scenario, no shades in MAC match and you have to find another brand...it happens.

Good luck

MAC Foundations while having the same number, doesn't mean they'll be the exact same color. If you don't like the color of your foundation or the way it looks on you, I'd suggest you to be rematched.

i agree the best way wud be to get matched again without telling them wat shade u were previously matched with. wear ur foundation for atleast an hr and check it in natural light. alternatively u can go to a mac counter and wear the foundation u r currently matched to on one side of ur face and the foundation they match u to on anther side of ur face and see which looks more natural

I agree with anshu7 above, definitely wear it for a bit, as foundation color tends to oxidize a little when on the skin, so what it appears to be in the bottle may not be the end result. If it feels too dark, get re-matched, but I will say that my biggest problem is my face and neck are often two different colors. So while that's not the only way of matching, you don't want to walk around two toned!

At least I don't!

^^^ I agree that you just have to wipe the slate blank,
and go in with an open mind and get a couple or 3 swatches

I just got matched the day before because I've tanned a bit this summer
the MA did half my face in NC42 and the other half in NC43
swatching jus one or the other , i wasn't able to really tell but to be able to compare both side by side... it made it quite clear I was NC42

even then, i still have to 'warm' it up with some matte bronzer
around my forehead area to get a good colour match
i guess my skin is not evenly the same colour all over my face
( I discovered the BE Warmth sitting in the bottom of my bulk makeup bin was perfect for this)
