Make your portfolio sleek and professional. When I had to make one and had no clue, I just googled 'make up artist portfolio' and looked at loads of online ones to get some ideas. I suppose the main thing you want to come thru is that you are creative and can blend well and use colours properly. I took photos of my friends finished make up and had a section for make up that had inspired me. I also had a section with all my experience on it. If you don't have any don't put that, go with the flow and put any customer service you have had on there. It's not just about make up obviously.
