MAC Lipstick texture help

Hi all,

My favorite MAC lipsticks have been their Lustres b/c they're so glossy and sheer. But I'm slowly branching out to the other kinds, and just got Blankety (Amplified Creme) and Creme Cup (Cremesheen). I like both so far, but they're so creamy that the color doesn't seem to stay put after a few hours of wear. It'll look cracked or not as smooth. So my questions are: What primer do you use with these lipsticks? What are the other MAC textures (Satin, Glaze, etc) like compared to Lustres, Amplified Creme, Cremesheen?

Thanks!

Glazes tend to be super sheer, more like tinted and usually (IMO) the same texture as lustres. Satin is just that typical generic lipstick texture, not super moisturizing, medium to full coverage, not quite as soft as the cremesheens or amplified

hhhmmm well i don't find that cremesheens and amp cremes wear badly on me. i tend to scrub my lips with a sugar scrub. then apply lip blam while doing the rest of my face. the i wipe off the excess balm and line and fill my lips - then apply the lipstick. i tend to blot once and then re-apply.

and as the above poster said - glaze's are very sheer but feel great on the lips. satin's and matte's tend to be a little drying on the lips.

My least favourite MAC lipstick formula is Frost - I find them very drying, even more so than Satins & Mattes.

My faves are Amplified Creme & Cremesheen.

I just apply a glossy balm (NYC) and then line my lips with a natural colour, blend that, then usually mx lipstick and gloss on the back of my hand and apply with my finger and it never wears badly.

oh yes... how could i forget to mention frosts! i find that some are worse than others... sadly straying from HK collection is a frost and that is the most drying lippie i own... shame because i love the shade of pink that it is!

I always recommended Cremesheen to people that like the Lustre finish.

While I love the Amplified formula, it can be a bit opaque and heavy for people used to something more sheer. Glazes can be fun, but depending on the particular colour.. they can be VERY sheer.

Any finish that is heavier than a Lustre, I always line the lips.. gives something for the product to cling to. Just like with glosses, the smoother/creamier a formula is.. the time it will last decreases (generally speaking).

I find the amplied creams to be very good for people with pigmented lips who need to cover their original lip color

I find that to get a hint of colour without all the dryness/crackingness that may happen, using a lip balm before and during my makeup helps. Blotting that out before wearing lipstick, and wearing a lipliner really adds to keeping the lipstick on for a longer time.

Another thing you can do is just dab the lipstick on your lips instead of swiping the colour on. Then afterwards, just rub your lips together and use some gloss if you want a glossy finish. I find that doing that helps the lipstick not get so dry on my lips.

I always apply a lip balm to my lips before any makeup to give it time to sink in and hydrate. If I want to mute out the lips I'll just use a little foundation, but of course for bold colours I generally do wear a lip liner.
Me least favourite MAC finish has to be Satin, I don't know what it is but they seem really drying on me, which I didn't expect as I love their Matte finish - colour payoff is amazing and lasts for hours. Amplified and Cremesheen are probably my favourite finishes, but I do love Lustres too, I just wish they lasted a little longer.
