the MA we were talking to today (man, was she righteoust...i've never had such an attentive MA before...perhaps it was the gross amount of money we spent hahaha) invited me to a makeup class...it's $40 to get your name on the list, but she said you get that back in makeup...what the hell?

do they like give you makeup, or did she mean you make it back in learning how to do your makeup properly?

for anyone who's ever gone to one of these, should i go? is it worth the $40?

I have done one of these types of things in Australia, you pay for the class but then the cost of the class is then redeemable on product. So it's really like getting the class for free.

I have been to a pro tour before and the money that you put down to reserve your space all goes towards any make-up that you want to buy at the end. So you can use the $40 towards anything you see that they use or any other MAC products at the end.

This is what I have experienced when I have gone to one of the PRO tours and I don't see why it would be any different.

In the class I was at they give you a few face charts, a sample or two, and box/bag for your stuff. Then you watch them apply make-up to audience members while they go through the application step-by-step.

In some cases I have seen them bring select pro products to the classes that are available for the people attending to purchase that day. They are pretty fun and it is totally worth if it is anything like the ones I have been to.

Have fun!!

Pro Events

I've been to a few of them and really enjoy them - I go anytime they are available, usually twice a year. Sometimes you will score a cool goodie but not always. The first one I went to I got a paint can for brushes and a mini notepad with facechart pages. Another one we got a brush "flip book" thing, and still another we got a black plastic box with the MAC logo on it. See picture of the paint can and black box here (you can't see the black box too well - it's top left behind the Clinique Brush Cleanser):

Usually it is one of the regional trainers and one of the Pro artists (usually Louise Zizzo for my area, western Washington). The most recent one I went to was our local regional trainer and then the regional trainer from another market (I think northern California?) I have also been to a "Foundation and Brushes 101" seminar that was a regional trainer and the counter manager. That one was only a $25.00 prepay while the others are $50.00. You do get the prepay back in product which for most of us isn't too hard to do! Fifty bucks is only four eyeshadows. Also, if you prepay far in advance and control yourself at the event, it feels like you're getting a bag full of makeup for only a few bucks once they deduct what you've already paid.

Ok, so...to sum up, they are lots of fun and a great opportunity! I think one of the best things I have gotten from going to them is getting to know the MAs better and I now have a "personal shopper" MA who calls me to remind me new lines are being released and will put stuff on hold for me. She's THE BEST! (I've had my own experiences in the past with less than helpful MAC MAs...not anymore!) Check out at least one of them and if you don't like it, then don't go to another one. At the very least you'll get some good tips all for the price of makeup you'd probably have bought anyway.

i've been to several of these events as well. usually they happen around the time of collection launches, because they'll focus on the products being released.

every time, there's been a set amount to reserve a spot (usually $40-75) and you get that back in product, it can be any product, not just those used during the demonstration or from that collection. they'll ask some questions, usually they'll give out prizes if you raise your hand and answer the question correctly. also, they usually have a light spread of snacks and beverages, and they'll give you small trinkets, such as mac pencils, face charts, etc. the culturebloom and trends events i went to were pretty informative, the artist would choose a model or two from the audience and then do their makeup, step by step, telling you what was used, and how. you can ask questions, etc.

the pro tour was slightly different, it was a higher pre-pay amount ($75 per person, in product) and they had the regional trainer, plus an actual pro from the mac site. john s. was the pro for my tour, and he used me as the makeup model! he did an amazing job, explaining every step, and one of the MAs in the room made a face chart for the look he did. plus, i got to keep the #7 lashes he put on me. overall these seminar things are very worth it, IMO, and the pre-pay amount really isn't a big deal, since you get to choose products. i definately want to go to more, when they come up!

Do you have to be a MA to go to these MAC seminars? How do you get to go to one of these? Do you have to be invited? Or can you ask about it? Is it only in certain cities that they offer these seminars? I would love to go to a seminar.

Anyone can attend these classes...just ask about them at your counter or store...since you're in Houston, I am sure they offer them there...

I have always wanted to do one, but it has never worked out. I hope to sometime, now that my kids are old enough to be away from me for a little while

Yes, you have two options - we did MAC in Mode which was a private evening event where one of our top pro artists explained the trends, showed how to do them, & then everyone got an application... I think it's up on the MAC website - and you might also like the "events" - they usually do them with a pro team coming in on a weekend and it's usually tied in to a collection, but there is no "group class". And there is no such thing as a silly question!
