MAC nail polish

i used to always just wear black nails because black goes with everything! but then there's the problem of chipping and after a day or two, they just don't look good anymore. my nails are looking pretty good and healthy now though (after waiting for the damage my old acrylics did to grow out) and i'm thinking more along the lines of a French manicure now.

i'm wondering if MAC nail laquers are any good? i need a pearly white that will go on pretty opaque and have some serious staying power. is MAC the way to go?

along those lines, what do you all think of MAC nail polish in general? i want to look into these

In my experience MAC nail polishes are not very long lasting, but I've heard other people say it's different for them.

I find OPI is the nail polish that last longest on me, but it's essential to use a good base coat and top coat and to ensure you don't apply the layers too thickly. Sometimes OPI lasts so long on me you can see the gaps at the base of the nails where the nails have grown since they were painted!

I've been told the best top coat is Seche Vite but I haven't had the chance to try it yet.

As for black nail polish, I've heard it's possible to get a black base coat which helps black and other dark colours look good for longer, and of course (again) a good top coat. It may be worth asking about this on the nail board at MUA because I think that's where I saw it mentioned.

for it to stay good you have to use a really good base and top coat. you might want to try something else.

MAC nail polish isn't too special, but not bad at all.
I think you would like GOLDED. It's kind of a pearly white with subtle pink pearl sheen. It looks really pretty on fair skin.

I have never tried MAC polish, but I like OPI and am LOVING Sally Hansen's Extreme Wear Polish. It lasts about a week on me before chipping and that's with NO base or top coat. Best part about it is it's only about $2.50 a bottle! The have 30 shades I think, and I have almost half of them... love em!

I like MAC's nail lacquers. They do chip, but no more than the OPI and Essie polishes I have. I really like the shades; they have some unusual ones (Moody Blue and Dark Angel come to mind).

Chanel also makes good, high-quality polishes, but they are pricey. If you have access to Anna Sui stuff, I'd also suggest those. Again, awesome shade selection and formulation.

MAC makes a few pearly/white-kinda shades, but you'd better act fast, as it appears they're downsizing the selection of polishes and quite a few are slated for discontinue. The vibe I'm getting from the counters/stores is that the polishes aren't selling too well. A shame, since they really are cool.
