I just heard that MAC is having a sample sale in NYC next week. Is this for real? And what does it mean for MAC if they have started giving discounts and doing sample sales- are they feeling the heat from their competition?

When I received word that MAC Cosmetics would be hosting its first-ever sample sale, I literally clutched at my heart with shock. "I may throw up with excitement," I said aloud. Though I have access to many brands and products, I'm particularly fond of MAC: its range of pigmented formulas, bold celebrity collaborations, and charitable initiatives make me both excited and proud to be a beauty junkie. The fact that the company has a rewards program for its most dedicated shoppers is just icing on the proverbial cake. So yes, I am pumped about this news.
However, there's one catch: the sample sale will be hosted exclusively in New York City, where MAC's headquarters are located. Should you be lucky enough to be in the area, you can snatch up your favorite products for a generous 60 percent off. The sale will be held at the Metropolitan Pavilion's Fourth Floor Gallery (123 West 18th St.) on the following dates:
