Makeup & Security Check

Which MAC products (or non MAC products, any brand) are passable through the security check point at the airport? Meaning through your carry-on? Do the same rules apply as they did some years ago, where lip glosses and skincare was a no no? I am not too familiar with the rules now. When I would travel for a long period of time, I would always pack it in nicely in my luggage for check in, never on a carry on. So I am quite stumped as to what is passable. Any suggestions? Thank you! =)

I'd love to know this too. I'm flying out of state next week for a few days & need to start thinking about what I can take.

Check this out...look about 1/4 the way down I think and there is a whole section on specific makeup allowances:
TSA: What To Know Before You Go
(it's kinda hilarious as you get farther and farther down the page what they feel the need to tell you you cannot bring...like "cattle prods" and "nunchucks" lol)
basically, anything is allowed...AS LONG as it's in 3oz or less containers. I'm not sure if you have to put your lip gloss, mascara, etc. in the 1 quart bag though... I know you have to put all your 3 oz liquid containers in a 1 quart bag. Just to be safe, I would.

yes tdoll, the only makeup that doesn't have to go in the bag is powders and lipstick. everything else, mascara, lipglass, balm, etc. needs bagged. all liquids need to be in a 3oz or less bottle. if you have 2oz in a 5oz bottle, they'll chuck it. all lotions, gels, creams and liquids need to be 3oz or less and bagged.

and yes, some of the listed stuff is pretty far out there!

You said balms...so what about lipsticks? probably a stupid question...
or do you mean just like products in a pot?? would concealer in a pot be considered a cream??

Being a woman and getting all our junk on the plane with us is a tricky business, I tell you.

anything not in stick form. tendertones and TLCs need to be bagged. the lipconditioner stick, however, doesn't. but if you have room leftover in your baggie, pop em in there. better safe than sorry.

and i would bag slimshines, since they are a gel-based lipstick.

i just bag all my makeup that's not a powder just to be safe. the first time i flew with all these new rules, i forgot about it and i was packing but forgot to put my makeup bag in my luggage so i just put it in my carry-on. i had my sff, lipglasses, etc in there. i was lucky the lady checking me just looked at it and let me through instead of throwing it all away. that would've been a lot of money down the drain.

What about my Studio Finish Concealer and Studio Stick Foundation, bagged or no?

Oh and is there a limit to how many quart bags are allowed for each person?
I am soooo afraid of my makeup being tossed. lol
That is why I made this thread, for those of you who have traveled, to share your experiences.
I am driving up to Vegas so I can take whatever I want but the problem is, I am flying back. I don't want to leave my MAC behind

We're going to Vegas too! I know for sure that you can have only 1, 1-quart bag. Not sure about the stick foundation, but I would bag the concealer.

I was also wondering about the quart bags...is it just 1 per person?? I'll probably just end up checking in my bag.

Well, the quart bags aren't that small. And within them you can only have nothing larger than 3 oz. containers.
You can put liquids of any size in your checked bags.

luckily everything that you normally carry in your bag is smaller than 3oz, so all you gotta do is bag it. and you can fit alot in a quart bag. just make sure you get a quart size and not a regular sandwhich size. you don't wanna short yourself when it comes to how much makeup you can carry on.

i'd bag both your foundation and concealer.

Thank you ladies for all your input

I plan on just taking 1 quart size bag since it is just a 4 day and 3 night trip. I tried packing last night just to see what I am going to take. And yeah I need to unpack a lil. lol Plus, my lil leopard bag is kinda tiny but I am glad, it will teach me how to pack like a normal person!

But, I forgot to ask....

What about pro palettes!? My friends want me to take 1 palette with me with all the 'pretty' colors so I can do their makeup and so forth. I also want to take my solar bits but not the entire thing, put it in small 5 g jars, would I bag that too?

Oh and what about my brush roll with my brushes in them?

everything you just mentioned can just go in your carry-on bag. you don't need to quart-bag it.

i wouldn't check any important makeup items unless you don't care if it gets lost or broken. which is basically everything! take the largest carry-on that you can!

Yeah I am not going to check in anything. I want to take a bigger carry on but I will have to be dragging it with me all day after my checkout from the hotel. And I don't wanna do that :\
So that is why I bought a huge purse, just to pack lightly. I am still scared to take any MAC with me, especially my pro palette b/c of the shadows falling apart/broken :\

to save my self this hassle i just packed all my makeup in my check-in bag when i went to Cleveland. lol. shows just how lazy i am. lol.

oh and if you can you prob could wrap your pro-palettes in something padded so that they wont get damaged. When i packed my pro-palettes in my check in i made sure that they were cushioned in the clothes.

I finally decided NOT to take my pro palette. lol
I don't want to lose it or break it.

I am going to take a quad instead with neutral colors. And take tiny pigment (& solar bits) samples in the lil MAC jars. I even scraped some of my paintpots into the lil jars as my base. I am trying not to take too much as I am only going for nearly 4 days/3 nights.
