Making pigment samples

i just have purchased some pigments and i am looking to swap with some people for half jars. Does anyone have some suggestions on the best and cleanest way to do this. I am also not sure on what container to put them in as my mac store doesn’t sell empties.

Ok, this will sound really weird, but when I give my friend samples, I use contact lens cases. I can put two colours in (one left, one right) and they pretty much all have screw tops. I am not crazy about flip tops b/c they can spray the powder around and waste it. Plus the contact cases are really safe b/c they have to keep your contacts in right? I have never had leakage using them. I bet an optician would be happy to give you some if you asked.

Here's what you do:
1. Go to the craft store and pick up some screw-top jars. I often find them in the section with beads or with sequins and other findings. My local Jo-Ann and Michaels each sell jars that are larger than a usual sample jar and would definitely hold a half-jar of pigment.
2. Set up a clean space with a piece of aluminum foil.
3. Measure your pigment with the clean measuring spoon over the foil -- if there's any spilled, you can use the foil like a funnel to put it where you want it.
4. The simplest way to measure a half jar is to make note of how full the original jar was (I use a sharpie to mark the jar lightly at the "full" level), then empty it out to half.

That's not crazy, or weird, that's fantastic. I had a girlfriend who used contact lens cases to mix her own lipglosses up.

Do not use film containers, and the chemicals from the film do remain in the plastic for some time, and can be highly toxic.

She has the right idea,.. craft stores will have mixing and storage cups with screw and pop tops for paint,... I have some minis called Buddy Cups that are great for samples,...

Oooh, good thing you mentioned that! I NEVER would have thought of that! Applying the pigment to eyes after it's been in an old film container could be really dangerous
