Many support ex-principal in gay rights case

Discrimination of any sort is not acceptable.

Is this a state school? Even if it is not I cannot believe anyone can be so callous.

This is why I believe that each persons religious views should not have any influence in the educational system.

This really bothers me on sooooo many levels.

1) Where are children supposed to learn tolerance, diversity, and respect? If the principal can conduct a witch hunt for everything he is against, then what do these children learn from that? Guess what buddy, this IS 2008 and you can't discriminate based on sexual preference. You didn't catch the girl having sexual relations on school property. The girl came to you for aide when she was being treated unfairly and you did everything in your power to hurt her more. How do you not know that this is wrong as a school administrator?

2) What bible do these people read? I do not remember anywhere in there where it said to shun those who are different from you or that you dont' agree with. Does it not say that we are all made in God's image and that we are to love one another just as God loves us? What part of any of these acts is love? I get really sad by things like this b/c this is what the world sees as the Christian church, a bunch of hypocrites. And why shouldn't they? If you are running around talking about your Christian values while berating and discriminating against people, why wouldn't they laugh at your "religion"? I'm not saying that I have a complete and total understanding of the bible, b/c I don't. But I do know love is the ultimate message and that these acts do not and cannot display love.

3) Lifted up the girls shirts to look for gay pride signs? Are you serious? I don't care what you are looking for that is inappropriate on any level.

Throughly saddened by all of this.

I wonder what other biblical laws they take it upon themselves to enforce! I wonder how they treat straight known high school sluts... if they have to endure all of the public ridicule.

I've said it once and i'll say it again... really sucks being different

This is a public school, correct? WTH?

Firstly, I don't give a damn what that man believes. If he believes everyone gay is evil, good for him. However, he has no right to treat students like that. It also sounds like the shirt lifting thing (I like how it only involved girls and guys) is just asking for a sexual harassment suit. Besides, what if someone had a pride symbol on their body, even if it's covered?

I'm so disturbed by that community. Why do they think they're so special that normal laws don't apply to them and that can allow that kind of intolerance?

Two thoughts.

Those people can all take their Bibles and shove them up their asses. Hard. That principal's rights to believe that homosexuality is wrong do not trump his duty to protect students in his school being harassed.

Second, they'd be facing a sexual harassment suit from me, in addition to these other suits. If that son of a bitch or any other administrator thought they could lift my child's shirt up, they'd be facing a wrath the likes of which they would never recover from.

Oh, and note to the old guy. "Gentle, peaceful" communities don't harass teenage children because of their sexual orientation.

What really bothers me is that these people think because they live in some remote hillbilly place in the Bible belt that they don't have to abide by basic civil liberties and respect people who don't share their beliefs. Like everyone in the community has to be a good Christian or otherwise face discrimination, and actually using that argument as an excuse.

Girly, great crimes and atrocities have been committed in the name of faith/religion... Sad, scary, but true...

I completely agree. Your personal religious beliefs have no business taking away the civil rights of these kids. It gives you no right to harass them, and it surely doesn't give you to right to conduct a witch hunt complete with body searches.

And even if I allow you to use that Christian argument, really how are YOU being a good Christian by doing any of this?

I don't like to criticize anyone religious beliefs or practices, but if you're going to use them as your reason for something like this, prepare for me to point out the hypocrisy buddy. Clearly, you are sadly mistaken if you think this is right.
