The motors: no, they usually don't. I've had my Gigi for about a year now, and she's as strong as ever. Just make sure you take good care of your toys! Clean them after every use, let the battery run down entirely before you start charging it, and store it properly.
If the motors DO run out, most luxury sex toys come with a warranty.
A lot of people waste money buying crappy toys because the idea of spending $100+ on a single toy--even if it will last a lifetime--is such a hard concept to grasp. I don't blame them; buying expensive toys is as difficult for me as it is to buy expensive makeup! Now, there are SOME cheaper toys that work great--I have a few I would gladly repurchase if they DID break--but they're still not quite up to par with most luxury toys.
Lelo is well-respected; I personally own a Gigi and an Ella, and I've heard tons of amazing reviews for their other toys. Fun Factory is a German company that is middle-of-the-ground pricewise; I've only tried one toy by them and thought it was "eh," but many reviewers swear by them. If you're in to dildos, Tantus is a MUST SEE; their products are incredible and the company is run by truly wonderful people. Liberator makes the best sex furniture, hands down, and also creates some beautiful luxury lingerie.
There are some cheaper toys I like that have lasted forever, like the Turbo Glider and the infamous Hitachi Magic Wand.
In the end, how well a toy works for you depends on what you want. For example, plenty of people love the SaSi, but it would never work for me because it stops when you apply pressure to it, and I need pressure to orgasm.
EDIT: oops, I accidentally lied! I've reviewed TWO Fun Factory toys, and I LOVED the one: the Layaspot.
