Matching Cosmetics to Clothing

This is an interesting topic....I usually match my make-up to my clothes but then sometimes, if I'm wearing Black.....I'll do somethin' to spice it up like Parrot Eyes.

I get a lot of looks because Black women don't usually wear loud colors like Electric Eel, but I could care less. Defintely a non-conformist.

I completly agree with "breaking the rules"---whatever the rules are. I'm one of those "do you" folx. Never been the one to hate on people's creativity and willingness to step out of the box. That, to me is what life is all about!

This is a very interesting topic... before I thought it's okey to match your eye make-up with your clothes... but when I watch Jay MAnuel (MUA, director of Aesthetics in ANTM)... he said matching your make-up to your clothes is a BIG NO NO to fashion... I still match it sometimes though... what I do is.. if I'm wearing a colorful top.. I just do smokey eye look and when I'm wearing black or white... that is when I put colors to my eyes...I don't know that's just how I do it...hahhhahaha!!!

I just hate when someone comes up to me and tells me that they're wearing a green dress and they want me to find green shadows for them that match the dress...

I do not match my eyeshadows to my clothing. I choose colours that compliment what I'm wearing.

The only time I think I'd match is when I'm wearing all black and might use a black eyeshadow. Or if I'm wearing white/brown I'd used a neutral-ish color scheme, but still I wouldn't match it.

I'm not a really matchy-matchy type of person anyway. I much prefer using compliments to enhance a colour, make a colour stand out even more, and so on and so forth.

I dress according to what makeup I have in mind when I go to bed. Most of the time it matches what I'm wearing and I like it that way. There are no rules in makeup!

I think I'm the only person who just chooses colours before getting dressed. I try not to match though; it bugs me for some unknown reason. I think it can look good as long as it's not too monochromatic like you're wearing bubble gum pink everything. Then it's a little overboard.

Well. where I come from EVERYTHING has to match. If youre wearing a highlighter yellow and purple shirt.. then youre shoes better be highlighter yellow and purple. Your belt better be purple, your earings better be highliter yellow and your headband better highliter yellow.

Not a lot of people around here wear makeup like I do.. but I'm expected to match it. And I love matching!

I'm against matching per say, but there are definite ways to compliment(not match) clothing and yourself at the same time, to pull your whole look together.

We all look at the top fashion magazine editorals and the ads, and we may not always like what we see nor would we necessarily wear it the way it's shown.

Though, I think most would agree that the fashion world gets it right most of the time. My point is that matchy/matchy is a no-no, and I agree with the fashion world on that.

Not that the fashion world dictates what I do (I started wearing my Fro in 1989 when hardly anyone thought it was attractive) but I do trust the fashion world as being exemplary of what looks good.

Matchy/Matchy
NO/NO

I totally agree with you.. that is so true....

I usually try to do something complimentary, like with any other accessory (jewelry, scarves, shoes, etc). Since 90+% of my clothes are neutrals (black, brown, & grey, especially), I'd have a hard time trying to go matchy-matchy anyway.

I actually like having some contrast with different accessories-- rather than picking one accent color and having kelly green earrings, kelly green shoes, kelly green eyeshadow, a kelly green top, kelly green belt, etc, I'd do maybe peridot earrings, metallic shoes, olive green eyeliner or smokey eye, black or brown shirt, dark green belt, and so on. It still hangs together well and has a "green" vibe to it, but less kitschy, imo.

i like to use at least one similar colour in my eyeshadow to one that i'm wearing. for example, i am purposely seeking a cranberry top to wear on saturday to go alongside my cranberry eyeshadow (gonna do a 'fire/smoky' eyes look! draaaaaaamaa!)

I say to each their own. Makeup is a personal preference. Some people don't like all the bright colors that are coming out now and say that people who wear all the bright colors need to go back to the 80s. Then there's others like me and practically everyone on here, who love the colors and the opportunity to mix them up. I've been known to match my colors but at the same time, I'll also spice it up and wear stuff that doesn't really match at all, but still compliments my outift. If you wanna match, then match. If you wanna compiment, then compliment. I mean, really, who decides these rules anyways!? Like the rule that I commonly heard growing up and still here from my mom..."you have brown eyes, you should only be wearing natural neutral colors. Why are you wearing all those blues and greens and all those crazy colors?" Who made up the rule the rule that you can only wear eyeshadow colors that are similar/close to your eye color? Just like, who made up the rule that you can't match your eye makeup to your clothes? Don't follow the hype...be your own person.

I dress like that too! My outfits always have a distinct color scheme, more often than not black with a couple of bright colors, for example black + pink + green or black + purple + white or something like that.

I usually wear colors of makeup that go with the color scheme of my clothing, but aren't actually on my clothing. And I really like to do neutral eyes when I'm wearing a lot of hot-pink.
