heeeeey ladies & gents ,

here i go again with my questions

so this time around i wanted to know if its possible and if it looks nice of course to work with matte and satin/shimmery eyeshadows in the same look ? lets say i wanted to do a blue, pink & yellow look , i have a matte blue/purple (almost a dupe of mac stylin' from HK) , a matte hot pink from GOSH and a light yellow gold(Golden Poppy is the name of the colour) from NYX and it is a shimmery/pearl (not glitter) type of eyeshadow . So would it be okay to just do my look as I see it or are there "rules" about that ?

And quite frankly I don't know the difference between satin/pearl/shimmery and frosty so sorry if I'm using the terms all wrong .

It's a great idea to mix textures! I would encourage it, even...adds some visual interest to the whole eye. I like to keep all the finishes in moderation though, like if I'm going to do a lot of shimmer on the lid, I'll keep the browbone matte, and vice versa.

If you need some help mixing finishes, a good rule of thumb is to use a shimmery/pearly shadow on the lid and then use a semi-matte/matte shadow in the crease. A matte shadow creates the illusion of more depth (since there aren't shimmers to reflect light), and so are especially effective when you're contouring the crease. But again, there aren't any rules in makeup so when you're comfortable with using a lot of finishes go ahead and mix it up.

I'm not too privy on all the different finishes either, I just go with what looks good!

As for mixing different finishes, often times it works better when complementing a shimmer with a matte and vise versa. Usually my crease colors are a dark matte, usually corduroy, and I use that with EVERYTHING. I usually do this because it adds texture to your look; using all the same eyeshadow finishes can make the entire look dull so spice it up! But I typically finish up my highlight with the opposite (matte ie mylar) of what I used on my eye (frost). Like I said, you can do anything and combine all textures, but whatever you do, be careful not to OVERBLEND because then it can look muddy and that is NOT okay

Good luck!

I think that the best looks mix different finishes! If you mix all shimmery colors, I feel like the look lacks depth and ends up looking like a reflector on a bike. The most beautiful looks mix mattes and shimmers. Sometimes with all mattes it can look chalky and flat (although not all the time) Mix it up!!!!!!!

I always mix different finishes. I don't like an all matte or all shimmery eye. It needs variation, IMO. Not that you can't do whatever you like, but I just like it best that way.

thanks alot . i just have to figure out where/how to place them . because wouldn't it be awkward to have a matte finish right in the middle of two frosty finishes or something like that ...

For daytime I really prefer mattes on eyelids and crease -- satins look best under eybrows or on lids. For night, I will use satins on eyelids, combining with frosts under brows and also on lids... mixing it up always looks better
