WOW!

What a fantastic speech! I was truly touched! What fantastic little kids too!
I am really in to politics back home and it was refreshing to see a good written speech delivered with confidence and she wasn’t too over practiced either! The occasional stumbling of words made it seem all the better.

For those of you not up to date, heres the copy from the BBC.

Quote:

The wife of US Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has joined party leaders in praising his values, dedication to family and leadership.
Michelle Obama, giving the first keynote address of the party's four-day convention in Denver, said he would make "an extraordinary president".
Senator Edward Kennedy, undergoing treatment for brain cancer, also lauded Mr Obama, saying he offered "new hope".
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke of a defining moment in history for the US.
Praising Mr Obama's "bold" vision for the nation's future, Mrs Pelosi described him as "honouring American values, a belief in personal responsibility, in community, in hard work".
Mr Obama, 47, will formally accept the party's nomination when he addresses a crowd of 80,000 at a sports stadium on Thursday night, fresh from touring electoral battlegrounds.
The first African-American to be nominated as a US presidential candidate, he will stand against Republican John McCain in the 4 November ballot.
'Best ideals' The Democrats hope their national convention in Colorado will show the Illinois senator as a family man and heal the rifts of the primary race.

Senator Edward Kennedy addresses the delegates

In an assured speech, Mrs Obama spoke of being raised with the same values as her husband: "That you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect".
She went on: "We want our children and all children in this nation, to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."
Mr Kennedy, the 76-year-old scion of the iconic Democratic family, appeared on stage to loud cheers.
"I have come here to stand with you to change America, to restore its future, to rise to our best ideals and elect Barack Obama president of the United States," he said.

His niece, Caroline Kennedy, who had introduced a video homage to Mr Kennedy shortly before, paid her own emotional tribute to both him and Mr Obama.
"Their stories are very different but they share a commitment to the timeless American ideals of justice and fairness, service and sacrifice, faith and family," she said.
"Leaders like them come along rarely. But once or twice in a lifetime, they come along just when we need them most."
Mr Obama's half-sister, Maya Soetero-Ng, earlier spoke of a shared upbringing in which she and her brother learned that with hard work and imagination they could "dream the improbable".
'Strength and unity'
Party officials have played down the scope for discord between supporters of Mr Obama and Hillary Clinton, his chief rival for the nomination.

Opening the convention, Democratic chairman Howard Dean spoke of "the strength and unity of our party".
Mrs Clinton herself, addressing delegates from her home state of New York on Monday, urged them to throw their support behind Mr Obama.
She will give a speech to the convention on Tuesday and her husband and former president Bill is to speak on Wednesday.
More than 4,000 Democratic delegates and tens of thousands of officials, activists, protesters and journalists have descended on Denver for the event. The Republican Party's convention will take place next week in St Paul, Minnesota.

she is just beyond words for me. she is great role model for women and girls and she inspires me everyday. the never-ending support for her husband, the love and devotion she gives to her children and her overall demeanor is just a breath of fresh air.

Yeah I am in love with her too =D I think it’s a much better role model for women compared to the others about. Jordan (UK glamour model), the playboy girls, Paris Hilton and Kim K. She’s so sophisticated and oozes femininity, and hey it’s okay to have a brain too!

I love Michelle, and she will make a very good first lady. I do have to agree that she is a breath of fresh air-not only because she is educated, articulate, classy, sophisticated-but because she does not act like she is a celebrity. This is, indeed, the first of many great speeches.

I wonder if she actually wrote that speech herself or has someone write it for her. so many speeches are written by someone else and spoken by another.

i love how she talks about how important it is to not accept the world how it is but to try to change it into what it could be. It takes a lot of courage to not follow the crowd and to actually stand up for causes. Oftentimes, we are all so selfish in our goals and ambitions. The Obamas are remarkable and I really hope this will be our next first family! So excited for this!

I enjoyed the speech. But most importantly, she looked fab...her hair and makeup were flawless! Now, the dress was too bland to me, but I get why the dress was low-key.

I love her so much. She seems so real and down to earth and it was so cute when the kids were talking to their daddy on the big screen!

I actually wish she was running for office over Barack! lol Nothing against him at all but there is just something about her that I really trust.

She is a very smart and educated woman, holding 2 degrees. I can say with confidence I believe she wrote her speech. It was too personal for anyone else to write and it was very simple. She is so awesome!

Definitely - I doubt she wrote it herself. As a former Washington intern I can safely bet that 95% or more of speeches are written by students haha. Politicians and public figures have little time to sit down and actually write a speech.

i was thinking that too but if she didn't do write it in its entirety, i believe she supplied the writer with a detailed outline and a great deal of input. either way no one else could have given that speech-it was her personal testimony and such a great one. i was listening to the radio and a white woman with a bi-racial daughter called in and said how she was so proud of Michelle Obama and how she is excited to see a positive image of black women for the sake of her daughter and unity amongst women. she she even started to cry when speaking of Michelle-her impact reaches far beyond race matters and unites mothers, daughter, wives and sisters of all backgrounds.
