I've read about that too. And I have really oily skin and tried almost everything under the sun. I was so frustrated from all these expensive products not working so I thought, what the heck, might as well try this it's cheap. The reason why I didn't try it earlier was because I thought putting a laxative on your face sounds disgusting. But then now, I did some research, and tried to find out any chemical explanations as to why MOM would work.
So I found out that Milk of Magnesia as a laxative absorbs the liquids in your stomach... or something like that. I forgot exactly. So I thought, hmm that makes sense that it would absorb oil on the face. Then I looked at the ingredients of some shine control lotions mattifying foundations and found out they all had magnesium in them. So I thought maybe magnesium is an active ingredient in controlling oil. Then I went to look at the ingredients that were in my mattifyers that I've been using and found out none of them had magnesium. So I was finally convinced to use it.
I read that MOM can get chalky so I tried applying a thin layer on my face. It still ended up chalky. Like the look of when you don't blend a blemish vanishing cream too well into your skin. I should have just applied my foundation after that, but I decided to put on my old mattifyer over it to blend out the chalky streaks. I don't know if that could be the reason why it didn't work. But I noticed that my oils came quicker than usual and I kind of started to burn a little. I might be allergic to magnesium... I should try using just the MOM without any kind of moisturizer and with my foundation to see if it really does work, but I really don't want to at this time.
I just recently saw on the Tyra Banks show that MOM makes a good primer in absorbing oil. So I guess it's not that weird if Tyra believes in it too
