I've read about that too. And I have really oily skin and tried almost everything under the sun. I was so frustrated from all these expensive products not working so I thought, what the heck, might as well try this it's cheap. The reason why I didn't try it earlier was because I thought putting a laxative on your face sounds disgusting. But then now, I did some research, and tried to find out any chemical explanations as to why MOM would work.

So I found out that Milk of Magnesia as a laxative absorbs the liquids in your stomach... or something like that. I forgot exactly. So I thought, hmm that makes sense that it would absorb oil on the face. Then I looked at the ingredients of some shine control lotions mattifying foundations and found out they all had magnesium in them. So I thought maybe magnesium is an active ingredient in controlling oil. Then I went to look at the ingredients that were in my mattifyers that I've been using and found out none of them had magnesium. So I was finally convinced to use it.

I read that MOM can get chalky so I tried applying a thin layer on my face. It still ended up chalky. Like the look of when you don't blend a blemish vanishing cream too well into your skin. I should have just applied my foundation after that, but I decided to put on my old mattifyer over it to blend out the chalky streaks. I don't know if that could be the reason why it didn't work. But I noticed that my oils came quicker than usual and I kind of started to burn a little. I might be allergic to magnesium... I should try using just the MOM without any kind of moisturizer and with my foundation to see if it really does work, but I really don't want to at this time.

I just recently saw on the Tyra Banks show that MOM makes a good primer in absorbing oil. So I guess it's not that weird if Tyra believes in it too :p

magnesium hydroxide. Active ingredient in milk of magnesia. It is an absorbent and has antibacterial properties for skin.

I believe kaolin also has a similar effect, and apparently kaolin is even cheaper to find than MOM.

Kaopectate has kaolin as it's active ingredient, but I bet if you look at mineral makeup companies that make primers, they probably put kaolin in them.

I think Alima has a primer now, and it might have kaolin as an ingredient. I was gonna check it out anyway, so if anyone wants to know how it turned out, I'll definitely let you know!

I find that too much application of M.O.M. leaves similar white marks that I would get from Clinique's T-zone Pore Minimizer... just remember to apply sparingly!

OMG my mom was just telling me about MoM as a primer. She said she saw it one the Tyra Banks Show and I should give it a try. I was/am a little creeped out about it but I guess I'll give it a try now that I know someone else has tried it also.

I've got really oily skin and unforuntely this did not work for me (I so..so wanted it to work!) =( It makes me skin feel tighter than normal and only prevents the oil about 1/2 hour longer than without it - after the initial oil prevention period that it gives me, I find that the oils on my skin comes out unevenly and makes these little blotches on my face, not good! Also if you are going to use it, use it VERY sparingly, as it is chalky (like mentioned already) and I particularily don't really like putting foundation over it as it is harder than usual to blend.

I had pretty good luck with it..

Put it on lightly and brush off anything that comes up white with a washcloth.

I found it kept my foundation on longer as well as absorbing the oil..

MOM is so fabulous.
First, I put Becca Mattifying Primer on my face.
I thin take two cotton squares and I put MOM on one.
It's kinda difficult to make sure that you don't get too much to come out of the bottle.
I take the second cotton square and press it to the first one (with the MOM on it) to "drain" some off.
I then swipe the first cotton square on my face, neck and eyes.
I let it dry and when I do it like this, I don't have any white marks.
But if you do, just take a cotton square (dry one) and wipe off the marks.
This is definitely a must!!!
