Mixing Medium

I got this Mixing Medium and I was going to use it for applying my glitter eye shadow. But, it looked absolutely horrible!! I dipped my brush in the mixing medium and then added the glitter to that, but it spread very unevenly and I just couldn't get it to look right.

Am I using it wrong? Should I find another way to apply a heavy layer of glitter (that won't fade)?

I've used it by dipping the brush in the pigment or glitter, put a dot of mixing meduim on the back of my hand and then mix there.
