I'm not in Boston, but I can give you some general starting out pointers/info.
I started modeling about a year and a half ago, and its been super fun! I met my photographer through some goofy contest at my college. I've also met some great people through things like OneModelPlace.com, ModelMayhem.com...and the similar. Online calls can be sketchy though, so always bring someone with you, I bring my boyfriend, even though most photog's hate that, he's very supportive of my modelling and after the shoots are over the photog's are always surprised with him, not freaking out and never butting in on the shoot. NEVER do anything you're uncomforatable with (duh!) and ALWAYS read the little contract they give you before shooting, so you know where the photos are going, who's using them, who has the rights to the pictures, etc.
You'll have to start out doing TFP (time for print) or TFCD (Time for CD), which is a good thing, even though you arent getting paid, it builds your portfolio and can help you get paid work. (Unless you've already got your portfolio started.) I still love doing TFP/CD work just to get more photos and more experience, and having different types/styles/ideas from photographers. It's so much fun!
It alot of fun, but getting your name and info out there can be hard. And when you find a photographer you love, stick by them, they who who's who and who's sketchy and all the info in your area, and! They can get you work through their connections!
Goodluck!!!
HTH!
