Mother of the bride

I just volunteered to do my mom's makeup for my sis's wedding as a bonding activity and for her to understand my love to doing makeup. Anyhoo, I realized I have no clue what look to do for her b/c I've only done up ladies in their 20's (friends, etc.). What are the general guidelines for the Mother of the Bride? I don't recall the colour of her dress right now (just picked it out, I'll call her in the morning), but ideas (and even some combos) would be great for the time being. FYI, the wedding is in 2 weeks.

Thanks so much!

i usually do neutral colors - beiges, light browns, light pinks...and pinky beige lips are good.

stay away from anything really frosty - it tends to highlight wrinkles and lines.

my mom can't stand eyeliner or mascara - so i try to use a dark brown eyeshadow to line her eyes.

now if i can only get her to throw out that frosty fushia tube of lipstick which i swear is from the 80s....

hth!

Don't use too much face powder. Only on the t-zone unless she has oily skin. For foundation, try something that is moisturizing but not really heavy either. Maybe a satin finish blush in a naturally flushed colour with matte shadows and a semi matte lipstick in a natural colour as well. Lipliner would be good to avoid the feathered look from fine lines. Perhaps you might want to use an eyecream underneath and a creamy concealer for under eyes. Keep everything natural and soft and I think that's all I have.

Yep, I agree. Neutrals and mattes. On mature women, I do love a bit of shimmer on the lips.

Here's a pic of my Mom when I did her make-up last Thanksgiving (she's 71 now - 70 in the pic)

I used Studio Fix in C6, Studio Finish Concealer in NC42, Raizin Blush, Espresso as liner and brow fill & Bamboo highlight. I used a set of ELF Natrual lashes and Maybelline Intense XXL Mascara in brown. We used her own moisturizer (Mary Kay-Time Wise) mixed with SmashBox PhotoFinish as a base.

Her lips I lined with Hodgepodge, and filled with Viva Glam V Lipglass.

*lol*!!! I have to convince my mom not to wear bright pinks and reds, especially as her dress will be white for the day (she actually hasn't picked out the evening one yet =T). Might be a bit glaring in the pictures. =P

Thanks for the neutrals guidelines and the tips about working with mature skin. I didn't think too much about powder and such but will definitely use a light hand. She usually uses just powder but I'll use a liquid one on her for the trial to show her what it's like, perhaps Select spf?

As for the neutrals, Naturally Eccentic colours popped into my mind but with a bit more plum (Flirty Number?) to give a bit of the colour she's used to. Would those be too subdued?

Any other ideas/tips would be greatly appreciated!
