MSF Natural and breakouts

Well, it's official, mineralize skinfinish natural was causing some breakouts. It seems like my skin does not agree with MAC foundations. The only face product I wear from MAC is blot powder and hope it never gets discontinued. I've always wanted a flawless look to my skin, but I think I'll be stuck with my blot- it's better than breakouts. I had high hopes for MSF b/c I got such great reviews.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I do not like liquid foundations, I feel like my skin can't breathe with them. I love powder foundation, any recs? Or am I stuck with my blot powder as my foundation?

I love MSF Natural, but when I wear it alone it tends to make me break out after a few days. And I never get spots usually. But when I wear the powder over my Moistureblend foundation everything's fine.

Maybe applying a primer before the powder might help by creating an extra layer between your skin and the MSFN? Or it could be the brush you're using? I know that sounds strange, but I've noticed that I break out more quickly and with loads more spots when I apply my MSFN with a particular brush (which I do clean regularly). So I'm going to try and use it with the Smashbox brush 19 and see if that makes any difference.

This happens sometimes. Some people are very sensitive to mineral products. Most often they do better with a "non mineral" foundation.

I would not try to use a primer. I love primers... but they don't allow the skin to breath. I bet if you are sensitive... you will still see breakouts if you use a primer. I only use a primer anymore if it is a special occasion.

You might like a tinted moisturizer if you are only using blot powder. It depends on your skin type. If you are oily you may not this, but maybe a sheer, light liquid foundation. If you apply that with a stippling brush you will feel like you are wearing nothing and your skin will have a beautiful glow

I love the 187 brush and have been contemplating buying it. I love brushes, but it's such an expensive brush to just use it for my blot powder!! I do not like tinted moisturizers b/c of my combo skin (oily t-zone). I wonder if I could apply foundation to my t-zone, where I have some redness (mainly cheeks and chin). I would not want to apply foundation on my entire face. Plus, I am very light and my neck is lighter than my face, so matching is a nightmare and I end up looking like a ghost.

Any recs for a light liquid to apply only to t-zone with a brush? Or is this a bad idea?

The mineralize skinfinish in liquid and powder break me out unless I use a primer. I don't like using SFF b/c it feels so heavy on my face. I thought I was the only weird one that ended up with blemishes from using them.

sorry to hear that its breaking you out i just bought this about two weeks ago and i have extremely sensitive skin and have only used it once because im not one to wear foundation much but so far no problems (knock on wood) when i used to wear any other foundation i would always thin it out with alot of moisturizer and create my own but maybe mac is way too much for you maybe its better for your skin to stick to powder foundations...have your tried the mac mineralize loose?? i use that to set the foundation but alone im sure it would be fantastic

I love MSF natural but just realized the same thing. It's been causing my skin to break out like crazy! i'm going back to Bare Escentuals.

This thread has made me feel so much better - I thought I was the only one to have this problem!

Primer really helps me keep the spots at bay too. I use Smashbox, but I don't wear makeup every day - only 3-4 times a week. Maybe that avoids the problem InRetospeck mentioned about primer not allowing your skin to breathe?

I wore MSF skinfinish yesterday without primer and I noticed small break out right under my nose..above my lip area the same day...It was really weird...I am thinking this is it but it may be related to something else..I rarely ever get breakouts so I am stumped....However. this was the first time I put the MSF on my face without primer..But that was the only place I broke out at..so I will have to test it agian once this clears up to narrow down the culprit.

I've decided to stop using the MSF Natural. I don't want to put something on my face that may cause breakouts- even with a primer. I might try the loose MSF powder. Has anyone used this? Any breakouts?

That is exactly where I get my breakouts as well. Under my nose (super weird), in the centre of my forehead, and in the centre of my cheeks. They're never huge breakouts, just 1-3 random pimples.

Will keep an eye out for your update post. TIA!

I can't wear BE because it breaks me out. Not badly, but once I stopped using it I was shocked at how nice my skin became.

Everyday Minerals is really popular. There's also Meow Cosmetics (they have really cute names) and Coastal Scents that I've tried with luck. Silk Naturals and Pur Minerals are other popular ones!

kinda OT but - i just noticed my MSF natural has tiny bits of micro-shimmer. You have to look very closely to see it - i'm guessing this is why it leaves a beautiful soft natural finish that isn't completely matte
