MUFE HD Powder vs. generic Silica powder

I saw that CoastalScents.com sells straight silica powder
Coastal Scents: Silica Powder Spheres
and I read somewhere MUFE's HD Powder is 100% Silica
is there any difference (in general )between the two?

ie. is one more finely milled than the other?

also, what would be the best way to apply Silica powder
and in what order?

ie. as a primer under foundation? or as a setting powder ? or other?

TIA!

I was actually thinking about doing a video on this...I ordered the coastal scents silica powder and I took home a sample of MUFE and there is absolutely no difference in the quality of the two as well as the ingredients....MUFE is one of my FAV. brands but I think they are trying to rip people off with this...

....Anyway, I've always applied silica powder on top of my foundation (the very last thing) in my opinion it conceals and blends a lot better...hope that helps!

You could wear it as a powder primer before your foundation if you use a mineral foundation or as a setting powder after if you use liquid.

I don't know about specific differences - but if the MUFE powder is finely milled you could grind the silica powder in a coffee grinder so that it is finer as well. They are both 100% silica so they couldn't differ much

I got my order of Silica powder from coastal scents and I am pleased to report my findings to be exactly as aleksis210's... it is extremely finely milled. There is no discernible difference in the texture or finish

I was just on the Coastal Scents site today before I went to Sephora to check out the HD Powder. Thank you for testing it out!

Thank you ladies!! This is great info. I was thinking about that MUFE powder, and now I will leave it be. If I want Silica powder I will go to Coastal Scents.

I got this brush from Sephora. The brush has a small scoop in it, and I put the powder in it. I twist the bottom to "open", turn it upside down and shake it a few times, turn it to close, and put it on. It gives the perfect amount each time, and this way I don't have to worry about dumping it everywhere or using too much. The first couple times I used it, it didn't seem like it was working. I found if I kept the brush open when I put on the powder, it worked. I bought the brush and the powder about two months ago, filled it halfway up, and I haven't had to refill it yet.

My MUFE artist used a duo fibre brush on me.
I use the stipple brush from Coastal Scents.
The black one is softer than the pink one and the brush head is larger to cover more area & it's cheap

I think there is a difference. MUFE has always advertised their HD powder particles being six times smaller than average. It is milled to microscopic size basically - I think this might be the major difference.

I personally don't think its the same. I always believe "what you pay for is what you get." I owned the hd powder and it works like a dream. THe only downfall to it is it leaves this white powder looking on dark skin. I'm NC40 for reference but I highly recommend it.

I have the two and i also agree that they might look the same but dont feel the same (hd is more smoother) nor they give the same final result.

It's def. the tiniest difference imaginable, but only in texture. You get a full 1 oz. jar for $4, versus .35 oz. or less for $30, so it really depends on whether you can justify the price difference for the slightest difference in texture. I haven't noticed ANY difference in finish though, after all it's only silica powder. It def. won't hurt to buy coastal scents powder first. Another thing is, I don't so much care for the slightly finer consistency of the MUFE because it desperses into the air like craaazy! At least the coastal scents powder (for me) sticks to the brush a little better and you don't watch your money float away(lol)...p.s. coastal scents and MUFE HD powder use the same size microspheres, MUFE's is just milled finer, the difference in texture in correlation to the price is too slight for me. Just thought I'd add my 2 cents....again...lol

^ That was pretty much a perfect way to put it. We're always on the lookout for good deals, which is why we use artists' brushes, Monistat anti-chafing gel, etc, to replace the high-end products. They're usually not the same in quality, nor should you expect them to be, but for the small difference in quality, you pay WAY less. I think it's worth it.
